I am toying with the idea of producing a small set of 30mm Undead ACW miniatures. I'd start with 5-10 Undead Civil War models for RPG and skirmish gaming. If there is enough interest I'd move on to a mass Undead infantry, artillery, cavalry, and historical persons, maybe even with a Kickstarter.

Below you'll find a handful of concept sketches for skirmish miniatures. Please let me know what you think, and what you might like to see.

It's a cool idea, but you might want to consider true 28mm as your scale so they will mesh will with the ranges of historical ACW miniatures such as Perry's ACW plastics.

Of course if you want it to scale up with lines like Wild West Exodus or Reaper's Savage Worlds then maybe 32mm-35mm is the way to go.

Yeah, a lot of people say they would prefer a true 28m rather than "Heroic" 28mm. Below is my first render of a prototype figure in 28mm. If it turns out well, I will add additional details and poses.

The render looks pretty good so far. However, the hat appears to be downsized to fit on the skull (which is of course smaller than a human head. This results in a realistic skull, but a small hat, and the whole head ends up looking too small for the body.

It would sacrifice a bit of realism, but you might be better served expanding the skull a bit to be as big as a full head and keeping the size of the hat to actual size.

The other option would be to slim down the body.

Here's a picture of the quality and proportion of some of the existing civil war lines as reference.

Agreed. This was my rough draft "proof of concept," and since then I have reworked basically every aspect of the model, to include fiddling with the proportions.

Here is a zombie render that reflects my current work. There are a number of improvements and corrections to the uniform.

My first successful prototype. Shapeways printed it with a fairly rough texture that I will have to address. Also, I still need to fiddle with the proportions to make the head and weapon larger. It looks like the barrel of the gun was either too thin to print or snapped off in transit.

Love the idea for this And I like the test models. Have you thought of Maybe having a general Grant or general Lee model or maybe models based on other civil war generals. Also you could base some models to have some of the iconic beards of the civil war era just look up some pictures of men from the time with there ridicules beards. And last have you thought of maybe after making some miniatures for the civil war expanding the zombie idea to other time eras like zombie Romans and Gauls or zombie crusaders and Napoleonic era.
