So, as a Salamanders player, I was extremely intrigued to see the Promethium Pipes from Stronghold Assault. I'm still a little unsure of how to build a list to make the most optimum use of this. Don't think I'm limiting this to Salamanders, though, any idea for any army is totally welcome! Have you guys come up with any intriguing combinations for this fortification choice?

Sisters of Battle may like it. You would deploy them centrally/close to enemy lines, so they are forced to either stay back or take cover behind them, and once you get close you can start torrenting your heavy flamers.

Possibly combining that with some way to drive them forward, if they prove to be reluctant to do so? I could see Tau, Eldar, or IG just laughing at a camping strategy. Still, I think that occupying a central location with the pipes makes the best sense, since it creates a huge footprint.

Plus I've been wanting to add some Sisters to my army for a while.

I've been wondering if Grey Knights couldn't do the same thing better, though, since they can take four Incinerators in a Purgation squad, and get some other nifty bennies to boot.

The Void Relay network, which I'm gonna take to everything remotely resembling a serious game, includes these.

I wanna run them with a Battlewagon full of burnas. Good times

Were you going to drop the burnas off at the pipes? Or just idle the wagon in the vicinity?

The part where I have to remain stationary is the part that's throwing a kink in most of my scheming.

And on an ork note: I'd considered a dual scorcha wielding Deff Dread. (Or two!)

Theres a guy at my local GW who takes Promethium pipes and puts Dual Flamer Crisis suits to torrent. He then puts Broadsides beside them.

I don't think vehicles can use the pipes. I'd be idling nearby and having the crew inside the BW get torrent

Slap a warboss in mega armor next to the burnas. The warboss confers relentless to the burnas.

I don't have SA in front of me at the moment; is remaining stationary a limitation of the Pipes or of the Burna Boyz?

If you can Torrent on a turn that you move, I'd consider Sternguard with at least a couple Heavy Flamers in a Drop Pod to be a solid use of the pipes. Deploy the pipes along the center of the board, and drop in.

Not quite. He gives slow and purposeful, which isn't quite the same. No overwatch, for example. On the other hand, S&P can be conferred upon a unit by a single model. Relentless cannot.

Please don't mind my quibbling.

The weapons become heavy and you can't snap fire templates.

Yeah, to fire as a Torrent weapon you have to fire as a Heavy weapon, which means most models are unable to move and still shoot. To be honest, this was the genesis for my 'how do you give Relentless to a unit?' thread. Orks in mega-armor seem like a good idea. (Granted, it isn't technically Relentless, but it's close to.) Grimnar is another. Have I missed any?

Do Attack Bikes have a Heavy Flamer option? Or are they just H. Bolter and MM?

EDIT: Just checked; they cannot take heavy flamers.

Obliterators might be a good choice, though. Infitlrate them up to the pipes with Huron, flame on.

Assault Centurions can take a battery of flamers.

A command squad can take both bikes AND flamers.

Heck, if you take a Fire Hawks (I think it's Fire Hawks) detachment, their command squad can take hand flamers, even.

Is there a limit on how big the model for the pipes can be? Ive been trying to find it in the book and can't find it.

I have been planning GK/Inquisition henchmen squads in chimeras with a full void relay. 3x flamers per squad for cheap and some monkeys for HFs. All this and a significant number of AV12 HP and cover from the pipes. Seems like it would be pretty great. Even nastier if I get rending.

No, but using the ADL as a guide seems to be a good idea.

Can you take a Farsight Enclaves list with just a regular Commander as your only HQ, or do you have to take Farsight?

6 flamers in a troops unit that is already Relentless would be pretty sweet! The ability to jump out from behind the pipes, flame the crap out of someone 12-20" away, and then hopping right back into cover? Awesome.

Why not just take a brick of monkeys to incinerate everything in the general area?

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

1) pts cost, cheap and efficient is always good 2) if you take too many monkeys you cannot roll rending on the upgrade chart. The monkeys stack right out of their chart.
