Subject: Please help me with a zombie apocalypse Kill team scenario

Boosting Space Marine Biker
|
A Friend of mine has decided that he wants to start a 'Space Zombie' army. He's going to be collecting Nurgle Marines and Typhus (obviously) and he's very much a fluffy RPG kind of player. and it has fallen upon me to design a few scenarios that take the 'forging a narrative' to the extreme.
Here is a brief precis of a scenario i have in mind to introduce him to 40k. (any help/advice is appreciated)
Procyon City, An industrialised population center, with 1.5 million inhabitants on the planet Chorda, Manufactures textiles as well as being a market for agricultural goods. is also the location of a Adeptus mechanicus research facility located deep underground. Communications were abruptly severed, the last communication was a garbled mesaage from the municipal adeptus arbites station:
'they're coming back to life...<crack> <crack> aaarghhhhh!!!'
With no communications for 6 hours, and reports of mas panic on the roads out of the city, the fleeing ciilians saying simply 'they won't die' or 'they're still alive' the local PDF commander decides to send in a crack team to investigate what has transpired.
The scenario will be a variation of the 3rd edition Kill team, with the kill team itself being an imperial guard Storm trooper squad.
The board will be a 6x4 area, with an open area for a valkyrie to land, but will be a largely built up area, with restricted lines of sight, some buildings will be ruins, but the majority will not be. as well as several administrative buildings.
The objective will be for the kill team to investigate a set number of buildings, find survivors and then extract. Automated AA defences will shoot the valkyrie down immediately after insertion, meaning the kill team has to achieve its objectives, and then leave from the furthest board edge.
As they do so, they will discover that the city is infested with zombies, and they are attracted to the sounds of fighting. so more and more will pour onto the board from random board edges, as well as they will be infesting the buildings in the city.
The kill team will get VP's for securing objectives, and rescuing survivors (who will be crazy and histerical) and lose VP's for failing to secure objectives, and losing team members.
The kill team will get 1 VP for each objective they investigate, and 1 VP for each survivor they rescue
Zombies will start with 5 VP's, but lose one for each objective that's investigated. they will gain 1 VP for each team member or rescued survivor they kill
The majority of zombies will be standard warhammer type (S/T2) but some will be plague zombies (from the chaos codex) and there is a chance of some 'bosses' turning up. i was thinking mechanical zombies (from admech experiments that got loose)
Killteam members will not suffer wounds from 'gets hot' but they will run out of ammo instead
each building on the board will either have survivors or zombies inside, each objective will have zombies inside, and each turn, d3 units of zombies (d3+3 strong?) will come on to the board from a random board edge. Zombies will move randomly, or towards the kill team if they have LOS, or towards any loud noises if they are within hearing range (2d6x3" if shooting, d6x3 if close combat)
what do you think so far? comments and suggestions welcome

Maybe create some evil zombie table you roll on at the start of each turn? either just a 2D6 table or go crazy and make a D66 (like champion of chaos rewards table)
With stuff like: toxic zombies! nurgle player chooses X number of zombie squads to gain +4 poison CCW for a turn. Slow spreading plauge: all zombie attacks have soulblaze for the remainder of the turn. extra ammo: Gets hot weapons regain ammo, or killteam gain twinlinked on all weapon for the turn. : Panicking civilians: one random civilian in the KT care scatters 2D6 and is no longer part of any unit, can be recaptured. etc

This does sound like good fun and right up my alley. Question OP, now that there is a new rules set for Killteam available are you planning on using that or sticking with a varied 3rd ed version?

Tonight ill look for the zombie survival rules we use. All you need to do is decide on whats ok to use in the survival mission. You need lots of models though as it starts to get tough and tons of zombies are pouring in.

Dude i'am going to make a mini booklet based on this with you name on, because this is not just a great story and scenario but making the storm troopers feel, individual and the zombies it's just going to be the best. You could change the race so it could be a 5 man squad of space marines, just adapting it for each race. That would be cool, just to add variety.

There was a thread for "survival mode" 40k that I think I inspired at some point in the past. You could probably find it using a search, but that was more geared towards larger games

Some rules that I have come up with to add which some are my own some are from other people. Hope you like them.
At the beginning of the game the player controlling the zombies may roll D66 like the chaos reward table
11 Zombies wound on a 4+
12 Zombies may gain an extra attack if when rolling to hit roll a 5+
13 The player may call D6 worth of units which may contain 2D6 worth of zombies
Etc
You may want to make it D6 or 2D6 it's up to you.
The player controlling the kill team may roll 2D6 each turn and have this rule till the next turn of the controlling player
1 Reserves The Kill Team may fire an extra round
2 Morphine The Kill Team has FNP on a 5+
Etc
The player controlling the kill team may roll a D3 which the kill team has the rules for the rest of the game
1-2 Extra armour-Increase armour save +1 up to a save of 3+
3-4 Extra Ammo-Gets to fire an extra round each turn
5-6 Night Ops-Gets night vision
Before the game starts the player must roll to see if the night fighting rules apply for the first turn, when it turns night it will be night for the rest of the game.
Turn 1 6+
Turn 2 5+
Turn 3 4+
Turn 4 3+
Turn 5 2+
This is as the operation goes on night time will becoming so each turn night may come.

since i have the 3rd ed rulebook, i don't see any particular need to get the new ruleset, which probably isn't all that new anyway.
I do like the idea of the ogryn zombies, will be a serious WTF moment when one starts smashing the killteam to pieces. and as far as zombies go, i have an undead army, so i'm sorted
