I'm looking to magnetize my models but don't have a clue what size to use for what.
I have space marines and was wondering if some1 could tell me what sizes are best for the various parts

I use neodymium magnets for everything, a good site for them in the US is http://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=10

For infantry:

- 1/32nd is about the maximum width I would use
- I use diameters between 1/10 and 3/16

For bigger things (terminators / dreads)

- I use up to 1/10 thickness to keep heavy things like arms in place
- I use diameters of up to 3/8

For vehicles:

- Any thickness up to 3/32 diameter

My personal take for infantry is following:
I generally use only 1mm thick magnets (somewhere between 1/32* and 3/64"), but have considered changing to thicker ones.

For backpacks, I use 3mm (~1/8"). 2mm is not nearly strong enough as models are often moved via backpacks. Same goes for arms.

Weapons I mostly magnetize with 2mm (~5/64"), as it is usually impossible to use 3mm magnets with them.

1mm magnets I only use on rare occassions, basically just for aligning items correctly as they cannot hold any real amount of weight.

3mm discs fit the shoulders quite well, 2mm discs fit the wrists and just about fit into weapons .
I use Spider Magnets as my supplier, always been rapid delivery times and they carry a massive selection of strengths and shapes.

I managed to magnetise a predator with only 3mm by 1.5mm ones, just used quite a few of them.
