Hello everyone,

I've been playing Tau for over 10 years by now, and while I do love the little blue fishmen I'd like to try something different for once.
My first attempt was a Grey Knight army with lots and lots of halberd swinging / psycannon toting strike squads - but I just can't bring myself to paint them all.

Since the FW chapter tactics update has been released I've been brooding over army lists for the Space Sharks.
I'd really love to play a drop list - and the fluff, cheap ccw upgrade and chapter tactics appeal to me.

My main worry is the utter lack of anti air - especially helldrakes will toast uncounted marines if I don't come up with something clever.

Please help me DakkaDakka, you are my only hope

Maybe swap some iron clads for a sternguard squad or two for their awesome special ammo bolters?

Bring a Stormraven. They are good at AA

I hear you, the problem with the raven though is that it'll drop me below 9 pods - which means I get to deploy only 4, not 5, first turn :/

Then deal with TripDrak and Cron Air Force

A cron air force or trip drak wouldnt be slowed by a lone raven either. Skip an Ironclad and throw in a Mortis Contemptor or Dread in a pod. If you need it for AA its there, if not it still provides good fire support.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Every list has hard counters. Drop pod armies are a hard counter themselves for plenty of lists out there. I'd just accept it and play what you want to play.

As long as you're not playing 3 helldrakes (pretty rare) or cron air (pretty rare) you'll be able to do ok against fliers because you'll be able to ignore them and focus on the ground targets.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

Good point Shrike, my usual oponents don't field aircron, flying circus or tripple drake - maybe it's time to look the facts in the eye and simply enjoy the game for what it is (in my case at least)

Well then, the last thing I've got to consider is how to mix the ironclads/dreads/sternguard in the elite slots.

At least one unit of sterns would be nice to help deal with MC's - although I really like ironclads they don't really perform well against the big gribblies

which codex are you using?

I've just started a Carcharodons list and using the Space Marine Codex.

Could Tyberos start in a drop pod with a command squad led by a librarian for instance?
