Do you just need the airbrush or do you also need a compressor?

Sure, first, do a search - this question is LITERALLY asked about every week.
So you will find tons of good hits on it, and folks have already given tons of suggestions.
For an executive summary: you want something that is a double action gravity feed brush.
Personally, I would suggest a badger patriot 105 and a basic airbrush compressor from harbor freight!
best of luck!

For a compressor I recommend: http://www.tcpglobal.com/itemdetail_AB.aspx?itemno=ABD+TC-20T
You want a compressor with a tank. It is worth the extra 20-30 dollars to get one with a storage tank.
The badger patriot 105 is a very good all around airbrush, simple to disassemble for cleaning, Teflon seals, 2 year warranty, and it is made in the USA.
If you go with the patriot 105 and that compressor I link (or any non-badger compressor for that matter) you will need and adapter.
I suggest: http://www.tcpglobal.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=ABD%201/4-1/8
And pair that with the badger air hose with the inline filter also: http://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-Co-50-2025-Water-Trap/dp/B000BROVMK/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388555916&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=Badger+inline+filter+hose
I would shop around for better prices, mainly provided links so you could see what I was suggesting.

Harbor Freight's is decent to start with, I have one but it is prone to produce air leaks on the compressor itself and the only way I know how to fix that is by exchanging it. If you have the money I would go for a better quality one with a tank system if possible.

I started with a cheap Chinese airbrush and compressor with 3ltr storage tank for about 80 uk pounds. the airbrush is outstanding for the money and I have purchased two more for undercoating and such, but it is capable of good detailing work. then you could buy better if you like it...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dual-Action-Airbrush-0-3-0-5-0-8mm-3-Cups-Air-Brush-Compressor-Stencil-Kit-Spray-/400543131617?pt=UK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH&hash=item5d423b27e1
compressor works very well and keeps up with undercoating several large models, has a water trap and safety cut offs.
I know this is from the uk, but its an example.
