This rivalry developed over the course of a few 1500 point games: the first one I played O'Vesastar (we're semi-competitive) and tabled him pretty handily. The next game, he brought four Rune Priests and Jaws is pretty devastating even with a 4 D6 Deny the Witch- I lost by points. This back and forth continued until we played another game which was 1250 teams, and he and his partner tabled me and my partner (SW/SW vs Tau/Tau.) I challenged him to one last 1850 game, and I think I have a list to counter his countering of my list. My old list was basically a scaled down version of O'Vesastar for 1500 points: Farsight and O'Vesa, a Heavy Burst Cannon Riptide and an Ion Accelerator Riptide, a Sky Ray, 5 Crisis Suits all with 2x Missile Pods, a Buffmander, and 10 Kroot with Sniper Rounds.

I picked up on the fact that he generally brings: four Rune Priests, two groups of Long Fangs, a lot of Grey Hunters (usually with his Rune Priests) and Razorbacks with Lascannons to keep them in. He's also brought a Land Raider and Thunderwolf Cavalry, but the former is the core of his list. His strategy is pack the units of Grey Hunters and Rune Priest into a Razorback and mobilize on the board, reaching objectives and increasing the effective range of Jaws. The Long Fangs hang back and threaten a lot of things. My general plan was to blow up the Razorbacks turn one by pumping all my fire into them, but that wasn't enough to get the Rune Priests inside. By the end of turn 2 or 3, he'd generally wipe my deathstar and from there it's easy enough to blow up a few Crisis Suits.

So, here's my new list and my plan for it:

HQ:
Commander Farsight. 165 points.
Farsight's Bodyguard Team: 4x Crisis Bodyguard w/ Fusion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Target Lock. 276 points.
Elite:
Riptide w/ Ion Accelerator, Twin-linked Fusion Blaster, Early Warning Override, Talisman of Arthas Moloch. 215 points.
Riptide w/ Heavy Burst Cannon, Twin-linked Fusion Blaster, Early Warning Override, Earth Caste Piloting Array. 215 points.
Troops:
12 Kroot w/ Sniper Rounds, Hound. 89 points.
Crisis Suit w/ 2x Missile Pod. 53 points.
Crisis Suit w/ 2x Missile Pod. 53 points.
3 Crisis Suit w/ 2x Missile Pod. 159 points.
Heavy Support:
Sky Ray Missile Defense Gunship w/ Twin-linked Smart Missile System, Blacksun Filter. 116 points.
2 Broadside w/ Twin-linked High-Yield Missile Pod, Twin-linked Smart Missile System. 132 points.
2 Broadside w/ Twin-linked High-Yield Missile Pod, Twin-linked Smart Missile System. 132 points.
Allies: Tau
HQ:
Commander w/ Command and Control Node, Multi-spectrum Sensor Suite, Puretide Engram Neurochip, Iridium Armor, Onager Gauntlet, Vectored Retro-thrusters. 170 points.
Troops:
10 Kroot w/Sniper Rounds, Hound. 75 points.

So the general plan is keep all my Kroot in reserves (Outflanking) and keep Farsight and his Bodyguard in reserves (Deepstrike.) Turn 1 I just hang back at my table edge. I do as much damage as I can to a few of his Razorbacks but especially his Long Fangs. This is probably the only turn I have to deal with them, because they'll be annoying throughout the game but Rune Priests and Thunderwolves in your face are more pressing issues. The Buffmander joins the IA Riptide, because the HBC Riptide has ECPA to buff him (although I'm considering just making both of them IA.) Turn 2 ideally both units of Kroot come on and either get into some suitable cover or fire at a priority target. However, the important thing is that Farsight will flawlessly deepstrike into his backline and with four Fusion Blasters, hopefully make some vehicles explode. With the Rune Priest and Grey Hunters no longer hiding in METAL BAWKSES, my Riptides and Broadsides can easily plow through with weight of fire. I imagine depending on how turn 2-3 goes for me, I can end up tabling him fairly easily or having a fair shake at covering objectives.

Things I like about the list:
- I actually make use of Farsight's Warlord Trait
- As there are only two Riptides, his bringing four Rune Priests won't be as effective
- Have very mobile troops still
- Many sources that strip armor saves
Things I don't like:
- I'm pretty dependent on rolling reserves well
- Because O'Vesastar's primary source of damage is centralized, there's no need for Markerlights. This list isn't as efficient in that department, although the Buffmander and ECPA help, in addition to the Sky Ray's Markerlight output
- Deepstriking Farsight so deep into enemy lines basically screams, "if my plan doesn't work you get Slay the Warlord!"

Any advice or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. I also wouldn't mind at all to use the standard O'Vesastar list if someone could clue me in on how to play this match up better. Thank you!

The Riptide can't be a giant death robot, its completely lacking a sword or massive chainsaw. All giant death robots have swords or massive chainsaws.
