So I got a storm raven for Christmas, and have been wondering how to build it in to army. I was toying with allies and came up with a very small, very expensive, likely inefficient, death company force. Just because it's cool.

So here we are, 1000 pts on the nose, whatcha think?

Astorath

Sanguinary Priest
- jump pack
- infernus pistol
- lightning claw


7 death company
- 1 infernus pistol
- 1 power sword

Furioso Dreadnought
- 2 blood talons
- extra armour
- magna grapple

Storm raven
- plasma cannons
- heavy bolters
- hurricane bolters

So there we have it. Horde / elite hunters, hopefully more likely to get to their target thanks to extra armour and jump packs.

My core force is a 1000 points of sons of orar that are a little more sensible, which is the shooty side of the force with the aa and at.

Any torts?

I would replace Astorath with a Reclusian. I'd drop the priest because the benefits he provides are already possessed by the death company. I'd run the Death Company and the Reclusian with no jump packs in a drop pod. Jump packs on Death Company cost as much as a vanilla marine. The weapon choices are good for the death but I'd run the rest of them with bolters. Death company are relentless, so you can rapid fire and still charge. In melee it just means that your only getting 4 attacks on the charge instead of 5. Finally I'd run the Furioso with a powerclaw, melta, mag grapple, and frag cannon. The frag cannon does 2 X S6 rending templets. It's glorious against high toughness models who rely on cover saves. (Centurions, bikes, defense lines.)

Can the death company not be transported in the raven?

They can but I wouldn't recommend it. I wouldn't put anything in a raven that doesn't have an invul save.

Best case scenario: You have nearly 600 points in reserves for the first turn if you have the stormraven loaded with death company+ dread. If you roll well it comes in on turn 2 at the earliest. Turn 3 you have to slow down to a 6" move for disembark. So the dread and death company can't do anything til turn 3 AT THE EARLIEST, and when you drop them off the Stormraven has to hover so it becomes vulnerable as well.

Worst case scenario: The stormraven gets intercepted and/or enemy flyers shoot it. Everyone in death company takes a S10 wound and which bypasses their feel no pain. Your dread takes a S10 shot to it's rear armor.

If you drop the furioso in the enemy's back lines with 2 S8 weapons and 2 S6 templates, I guarantee it will get his attention and release some pressure off whatever you are trying to march across the field.

Makes sense when you put it like that! Bit of a gakker that drop pods are the way to go though, can't stand building / painting them.

What's the deal with death company tycho? Any good?

I'm waiting on the codex arriving and just browsing through battlescribe so I don't have the full info on him yet.

I've never fielded DC Tycho because he isn't an independent character and the DC lowers his leadership. If I have DC I use a reclusian as my HQ with most of my DC with bolters and maybe like 1 powerfist. With this configuration you are rapid firing 18 shots, and following that with 40 attacks on the charge WS5 S5 rerolling to hit and rerolling to wound. Even stormshield thunder hammer termies can't stand up to that. The only real downside is that if you get challenged your reclusian isn't that amazing. It's best if he sits out most challenges.

I often just drop pod the dreads and have the DC sitting in cover mid field. They draw loads of fire and everyone is scared to maneuver that direction.

Tycho is definitely not worth his points in any game. dont run him

Brother Corbulo on the other hand is borderline broken.

How so?

He provides all the benefits of a normal Sanguinary priest, but he has a rending chain sword, 2+ feel no pain, and he gives you a one time reroll of any die. Put him in front of a sternguard squad and he'll tank all the wounds.

Corbulo is hands down the best named character for BA. Most BA characters are over priced where as I feel Corbulo is a great value at what 105 if I remember right?

Yup. If you could give him a jump pack he would be in every list.

Been looking at this again (still pending the codex and purely going on what I like from the fluff I know), I could have Seth as my HQ and include Lemartes in the DC squad, would this be at all effective in game?

I always loved the Seth and Asteroth models, so would love to include one of these (the fluffier the better!) though I know nothing of lemartes. I'll be lexicanum'ing him now though also appreciate any input from dakka on in game effectivity.

NP. I've never ran Seth but he's very cool. Lemartes is pretty bad ass but expensive.

Just lurking here, but yeah, I was tempted to do BA allies for the lemartes model alone lol

Gotta say that I'm not all that crazy about lemartes' model; I'd more than likely convert him with sanguinary guard parts if I do go there, though 150 points is a lot for 1 non hq 2 wound model, though there are obvious benefits to him of course. I guess the question is would I get more bang from an equivalent amount of points spent on regular death company or is he the way to go?

The problem is that your paying for the jump pack with him. If your not running jump death company he's not worth it.

Dante already has a mask. If he is with them then you're not really getting anything for the points.

That's an excellent point, I completely overlooked that! Ok, so dropping the masks and the tech marine allows me to bring in a dreadnought with multi melta, give the chaplain an infernus pistol and the sanguinary priest a hand flamer.

Was never reeeeally sold on the techmarine anyway, was just using the points up

Think I've got a little back story for these guys too. They're a custom chapter called the Jaded Angels, this is their chapter master and a small honour guard who got bored, and basically went on a hunting trip without telling anyone. The naughty little bastard.

And the dreadnought's the chapters master of the forge who refuses to go in to stasis.

I know it's a daft idea, utterly inefficient points wise, but equally sounds VERY fun to run! I feel a slight spending flurry coming on, maybe ill treat myself after painting up the raven....

Well if its not fun, then what's the point?
