I posted up a while back on how to use the Vallejo liquid metal line and have recently received the paints and put them to work as per the guidance I received in that thread... Now, after having used them, I am wondering what is the best way to capitalize off of their superior sheen? I have been using them straight and then oil washing them, but they still tend to be overpowering (which is cool) but almost distracting. Would it be best to use a non-alcohol paint and then just highlight with the alcohol paint? Any further guidance would be appreciated as I would like to plan out my next modeling project...

I had been thinking of adding [Tamiya] black paint to liquid silver to give it a more gun metal look.

Best way to get them more toned down is to apply them. add a wash and then highlight where you want the emphasis (light source etc) to be.

I thought about this but won't the water based wash make them rust? My biggest fear is the dreaded rust that everyone warns about....

Once dried the wash/paint don't mix.

Awesome! Well, I wish I would have asked this question before I worked on my current paint project... oh well, live and learn. Thanks for the info!

Also, an easy safeguard would be to simply give the model a coat of varnish, which if glossy will also help the wash flow. Then the layers don't touch anyway.

I really want to try these paints, but I have trouble finding local carriers. Unless I've seen it in person, I'm always leery of buying paint online.

I usually am too but have been overseas for a while and have had to make due with online purchases. As for these paints, I would think they would be hard to find ad they might be considered more of a specialty paint...
