Sorry... I think this is the third topic I made like this but making a decision for myself apparently is not gonna happen anytime soon...

SO... I am wondering what would look better out of these three paint job ideas for Eldar?

1. Green with red helmet or faceplate

2. Green that transitions to yellow

3. Green with a greyish blue like space wolves grey or something like that.

I hope you guys can tolerate me for a little bit longer until I can finally settle on a paint scheme that grabs me.

Edit: I am looking at a dark green that will either transition to moot green but that might be too bright maybe, I feel like it would look terrible but I wonder if I can do something a bit unorthodox like dark green that transitions to like bone or something...

Yup, I was actually painting one and I had a epiphany so I started work on one right now but since it uses so much white it is a bit of a pain in the arse to paint. I wish there was a easier way as trying to get it to look good requires about a little over 9,000 thin as hell layers but I don't think I saw a similar color scheme yet when browsing CMON or the Dakka Gallery so I cant wait to present it.

If it looks good that is... This will require the most effort I have placed into painting these stupid guardians or any model yet I am thinking or maybe it is gonna be meh and I am way over hyping it

White- prime white or light grey. 4/5 coats of thinned Ceramite White. 2/3 thin coats of vallejo model colour white. Use vallejo pale grey wash for recesses. Boom, done. Doesn't take anywhere near as long as you'd think. Frankly if you're painting white without using Ceramite White then you're doing it wrong, it's such a time-saver.

Damn I messed up big time, I could not find the Vallejo washes in town so I got a bottle of vallejo blue grey pale and "tried" to make my own wash... I mixed it 15-1 with water+flowaid and I even gloss varnished the mini to help with capillary action and the results were terrible, I am gonna have to try to clean it up now with some skull white now.

How can I turn this stuff into something like a gw wash?

even with flow aid, water does not thin it disassociates materials - you need an acrylic medium, which you can get from most art stores.

If you can find them the army painter "inks" are actually washes, and match the old gw washes....they are quite amazing as well.

Or try ordering some various washes on line.

best of luck with the mini!!!!

Thanks, I just wish there was a store in my state that had more vallejo stuff... My local Hobby Town just recently started to carry the Vallejo Model Color range and one color of the Game color range....

(Lol wow ONE color that's impressive, I think it was Majestic blue?)

But since I am impatient could I just thin down badab black or nuln oil and use that? What If I thin the badab black and add some grey paint would it still serve the purpose that I seek?

Or should I stop acting like a mad 6 year old that wants the candy now and order the proper washes?

Indeed, although I just realized how I can get the candy now I can just make my own wash with Lester's wash recipe!

All I need is some matt medium and ink since I have everything else, now should I get FW Cool Grey or FW Payne's Grey? I feel Payne's Grey could be too dark but I don't know if that would be toned down when thinned down for the wash. Any thoughts for which one I would need for my shopping list for when I get off work?

Id personally go with the darker one as the contrast is nicer. Although I start my models primed black, build 3 different grey highlights then thin layers of white for preshade. I then pin wash (on stain) with a black oil wash which really 'pops' the white.

Sorry this is coming a bit late but what do you mean by "On stain"? I have not heard that term before.

I like the green, and white colors personally...Maybe a lighter gray insted of the white.
