Hi guys, hope this not a repetitive thread. But I was looking around for other tanks to use for 40K. Sometimes 1/35 scale seems to do the job, but it all depends on how big the actual tank is. I saw a Academy 1/35 Metal Enhanced MERKAVA MK II Tank Plastic Model Kit #13242 on ebay. Here is the link:

I was hoping this thread would be filled with alternative tanks you have used for 40K and 28mm figures in general. So please post them up here.

Using my own personal creations as examples, in terms of 1/35th scale tanks.

Main Battle Tanks, and WW2 Super Heavy Tanks work as Baneblades due to their length and width. (Your Merkava fits in here)
Challenger 1
Spoiler:

Maus Tank
Spoiler:

Cold War and WW2 Heavy Tanks work as Macharius tanks. Such as the Tiger 1 or a Modern M60 or Sheridan.
M60 (heavily converted super structure and turret)
Spoiler:

Tiger 1
Spoiler:

Mediums sometimes work as Malcadors. an M3 Lee makes a very good Malcador with the secondary turret and sponson main gun.\ Panzer 4's hulls make good Malcador's as well.
Panzer 4 (heaviler modified into Defender)
Spoiler:

select light tanks can work as Leman Russ Tanks (and theoretically Predators due to size similarities). A few I have found are the Vk1602 Leopard (German experimental tank), The Stuart, Possibly the M22 Locust and a few others.
(Both my Stuart and Leopard are under construction, but their hulls are very close to the foot print of a Leman russ. the Leo is only about 2 mm longer. and the Stuart a little big thinner which can be fixed with sponsons or mods)

My "Leman Russ" tanks:

Made from Pig Iron Productions "Ironsides" tank hulls with scratchbuilt sponsons and turret.

As for scaling ...

They are a few inches longer, but the turret and sponsons are at the same heights. The weapons ARE further back on the sponsons, though, and the hulls are harder to hide in terrain. They look infinitely cooler, though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

When I did my "ultra modern" army a couple years back - I ended up using paper model templates to build MBT, SHT and APCs. The force organization correlates well enough to IG armies that it should apply here.

For the Super Heavy:

http://myhobbycraft.blogspot.com/2009/12/efgf-m61a5-main-battle-tank-135.html

Rescaled to 1/48 scale it is about 9 1/2" long (not including guns), 4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. Comparable to a Baneblade fairly well - though a bit narrower.

For the MBT - Leman Russ comparable chasis - I went with the Sabre:

http://spykerenterprise.webs.com/apps/blog/show/15891978-sabre-mbt-papercraft-model-

Again, rescaled to 1/48. The width is about right, but the height and length are a good bit off from a Leman Russ. However, that didn't bother me too much as I always thought the proportions of the Russ were a bit too comical for my own tastes.

To replace Chimera's and the APC role I used the Bionix:

http://myhobbycraft.blogspot.com/2011/03/bionix-ifv-135.html

Again, 1/48 scale and all that. 2 1/4" wide, 4 3/4" long and about 2 1/4" tall. Close on the length and height - but not so much on the width.

Little bit of air support from a Hellhound:

The paper models take care of most the hard work. Transferring it over to plasticard makes for a very durable model - and we ended up molding and casting the Sabre body to use a base for other alternate armored vehicles (anti-aircraft, indirect fire...).

Have you guys seen the DUST series of 1/35 world war II style walkers?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I noticed the DUST walkers are pricey when they are made out of resin. There are some plastic ones, but I don't know where to get them from.

The 1/48 scale DUST vehicles are available in any number of hobby shops and online shops that deal with gaming. Look for DUST tactics.
