Hi,
Thank you for your email. We will be placing the updated rules for Irillyth into the downloads section of our website either tomorrow or Monday.

Recieved this from Forgeworld today! I know we have been waiting on an update to IA:11 for some time now. Could this be it? Or maybe just a single update like they did for the Shadow Spectres/Exarch? Either way I am excited. I just recieved Irillyth and a full squad of Spectres (including the Exarch) for Chrsitmas and have been looking forward to fielding them. What do you think guys?

I wouldnt hope for an updated Corsair list to come with him, but it would certainly be lovely if they did.

Woot woot! Hopefully this is a precursor for the new corsair codex. Hopefully they also re-look at shadow specters and buff them up to usable level.

Shadow specters already have updated rules on the FW site, they are more than usable (IMO).

I think the current Spectres' rules are decent as well. The real problem is that they have to compete with Warp Spiders. The Spiders are cheaper, faster, and have an arguably better damage output vs most targets. I still plan to run the Spectres though because the models are fething awesome. The fluff is epic as well.

If this is the updated Corsair's list we've all been waiting for, there better be double shuricannon variants available. Completely ridiculous that the old venom couldn't take 2. 110 pts for a double cannon venom and a cannon corsair squad (assuming prices don't change much) sounds like a great deal to me, 9 Strength 6 psuedorending shots on the move in a scoring platform at that price point ought to be very competitive. Admittedly you're note quite as nice as your Dark Eldar cousins defensively with no Night Shields etc and you get fewer shots but you can actually hurt vehicles and you're averaging one psuedorending wound per Venom per shooting phase, that's enough to eat up something like a Wraithknight no trouble with enough of them. You could fit six venoms and three Hornets as low as 1000 points without too much trouble, that's some fearsome firepower.

Indeed. The new hornets are SICK. Two pulse lasers for 5 points each? Yes please. I played mine for the first time two weeks ago and they were devastating.

The Specters fill a very different role though: infantry based long range anti-vehicle, a tole that no other unit (codex or otherwise) can fill (except dark reapers w eml, but I think the specters are more effective.

Not anymore. Most recent rules here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/s/shadowspectres.pdf
18" guns. Ghostlight can only increase STR and reduce AP. It no longer affects range. This is why people are hoping for better rules, and also why spiders are much better.

For some reason they nerfed the hell out of a pretty balanced unit, and at the same time failed to release new rules for Irillyth.

Gee, I wonder who was possibly cool enough to send you all that sweet Forgeworld.

Very excited about the coming update. He needs it. Would love a reason to take him off the shelf.

Sonofa!!!!!! Thats what I get for not looking at the rules in forever... I never even got to play my 3 squads under the old rules :(

Because really, the last thing the Eldar needed was another close range AT unit, or for that matter a close range crowd-control unit...

Tuesday morning in the UK now. Darn it, I do hope they will post the rules today. I already have 5 spectres and irillyth, and almost ordered another 5 yesterday but I had to wait for my friend to figure out what he wants from FW.

Good thing I came acros this topic just now. I'll wait for the rules and if the rules are crap, I will be ordering something else.

Just to back up your 'rumour'.. this is what forge world posted on facebook on the 6th of january:

"Forge World: I'm not sure of the exact time frame for the Corsairs, but I know the Irillyth update should be coming this week."

So most likely it's just going to be Irillyth for now, corsairs soon hopefully.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ughhhh! The new rules are even worse than the old ones :S.

- irillyth is more points than before (most of all phoenix lords, though he's one of the worst)
- Hit and run (like they'd ever survive close combat)
- Night vision (why need this if the squad can only fire 18")
- No warlord trait
- acute senses (what? they can't even outflank can they?)
- No invun save
- Power glaive is gone?
- Using ghostlight when he's in his group...makes him worse

And the problems that were there before are still there:
- spectres are not updates so they still have 18" range guns :(
- nothing done about the weird 12" ability (12" really?)
- too many points when compared to spiders
- cover save doesn't stack (and unlike the ++ save they used to have, many armies will just ignore this save)

I have never ranted before, but I am very unhappy with these rules. Just because they seem to make no sense (like the night vision, acute senses, no warlord trait, guns range, 12" ability... wait.. thats everything)

It seems like the one who wrote the rules, doesn't actually know the rules of the game. The rules are not just bad, they are just wrong and incoherent.

Wow...just...wow. I was so excited for this update and then...squish. A giant turd plops out on the floor. Oh well, I'll probably run them anyway, due to the models looking so cool!

He seems pretty cool to me? Heavy 3 Plasma with Ghostlight/Lance means he can single-handedly take down AV14 from range most other models could only wish for, reliably.

Maybe a tad overcosted, but I don't see why people think Warp Spiders are better. For +6 points a model, you gain effectively a Jink save, have +6" on your guns (deathspinners are only 12", yo), have the ability to group up your shots for a really powerful blast should you need it, and have an actual AP value, AND really mess with people's leadership tests. You also remove that silly rule that made Warp Spiders often lose units just from rolling doubles in the jump pack move.

Seems like a pretty legit unit to take to me. Am I missing something? I think Warp Spiders are like the most overrated unit in the entire Eldar codex right now, honestly.

Shadow Spectres are stupidly slow compared to Warp Spiders, are less resilient, have a much smaller squad size, and can't put out enough fire to make a difference. And on top of that are half again as expensive. Shadow Spectres are chumps, their only gimmick is combining fire to mess up vehicles and even then they are a incredibly expensive 18" range Lascannon with Lance on average. And anything less than AV13 the Warp Spiders will mess up worse anyway as the difference between AP3 and AP- is non existent and the Warp Spiders are firing two shots a piece.

But at a completely obscene cost. You have to spend a lot of points on a whole squad to support him (remember, your base strength goes down to STR 6 if you use the squad's guns), and paying 400+ points for a single anti-tank unit is not a winning strategy.

And of course taking away his power weapon (and replacing it with literally worthless USRs) was just insult to injury.

The price hike combined with the nerf makes him not worth his points which is obscenely disappointing. FW really dropped the ball with him I think.

And with those rules my shadow spectres are going at the very bottom of my painting backlog. No hurry to get them finished now. Maybe they will see use in a narrative campaign later this year but not in a regular army list that's for sure.

Maybe they broke the mould and don't want anyone to buy the model?

Thanks to public feedback forge world has actually released a new verison of Irillyth available here:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/I/Irillyth-2.pdf

This one seems, at least compared to the previous one, awsome with better rules all around a lower price and a new, personal warlord trait. So what's your take on this new version?

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k

I love these new rules. I was hoping for the 'split fire' warlord trait, but instead they just gave him the split fire USR and gave him a unique warlord trait. The trait is not the best, but it is fluffy and might see some use, I like it.

The cc weapon is awesome as well, if they had just given him a power glaive it would have been fine by me, but this one trumps everything we could have expected.
The shadow of death rule is still short ranged as before, but now that irillyth is a good character in itself, I just see this as an added bonus and a nice flavor of fluff (and might see some use as well).

Oh.. and the ghostlight rule is explained a little better than in the shadow spectres pdf, they ghostlight rule can go for both ap and strength alterations (not sure if this was clear before).

And a 25 points reduction.. yes.. he is going to see the table again.

I would just run the Shadow Specters as spiders.

There is no reason not to use those beautiful models, and it is a reasonable substitute.

How about running Irillyth and some spectres and allying in some Dark Eldar? Granting Night Fight, and having Night Vision on everybody would be fun.
