Finally got around to finishing my scratch built Eastern Orthodox church. I've always wanted one but cost was a factor, so I decided to build one myself.

This looks great. Do you have any WIP pics? What did you use to make it?

Looks very good! As nice as any official product I have seen online. The dome in particular is very well done (and looks like it was quite complicated actually!)

Thats very nice indeed. How did you construct it?

I don't have any wip pictures. I based it off of the one photo I saw in the back of Eastern Front. It is all basswood. My local Micheal's was clearancing their stock at 90% off.

The dome? Actually the easiest part. Upside down Christmas ornament.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here are some interior shots and some "undercarriage" work.

You can fit a full unit of FJ plus attachments in the entirety of the church.

Dome

Underside of pitched roof. Just a basic frame with 1/4 and 1/8 flats.

underside of steeple. Much more difficult. started with the base frame and built up the octogon portion. The final tower portion was based on the "dome". Had to be small enough to hold the dome, but large enough to accomodate the unseen portion.

With the sale, I am guessing I have less than $15 in materials in it. With the sale price, I'm guessing probably closer to $50.

That's very nice, and a very creative, effective use of a Christmas ornament!

I like it, but something wrong with cupola. It looks strange - golden and new on old wooden church. And bulky.

Look at this:

Cupola usually smaller
