Drop it in front of a target. Teleport a full unit of warriors out of it. Kill an important vehicle or 2. Make good use of its suction door too. The monolith at my club has claimed 4 avatars because of that portal thing.

Deep Strike it in front of an important unit(s). Suck them away, particle whip their asses all over the place, etc. I tend to just deep strike it where it can be most destructive and hope for the best until the enemy eventually drops it.

Remove from list, spend 200 points elsewhere. :-) *kidding*
I usually deploy mine, when I take it, then lumber it toward an objective.
I like to take a C'Tan when I take it (for funzies) with the anti-melta power + one other power, as it's fun having him come out the door.

It's terribly slow and only really has the ordnance blast as an effective weapon, unless the enemy comes to you or you deep strike it down right in front of them and use the portal, which is fun, just try not to mishap.
With the amount of terrain I'm used to playing with, the monolith is too fat to get anywhere and has a tendency to get immobilized in the most inconvenient of places.

Oh god, please don't be trying to bring up the whole "Monoliths don't scatter when deep striking" thing again.
How many times does this need to be hashed out before this is finally set straight?

Oh, so you just mean for shooting ordnance, then. Good.
(as long as that "Monoliths don't scatter" argument stays in the box. YMDC has already settled that one, it doesn't need to be revisited just so we can go over the same crap again).

Doesnt it ignore all terrain in its movement?

I like to take one with Zahndrekh and keep it in reserve. When my opponent deploys something from reserve, Zahndrekh's ability allows you to immediately deploy, on your opponents turn, a unit which is deep striking. In this way I can bring the monolith in on my opponents turn using their reserve roles. It also allows me to put the monolith out of immediate harms way, but still in an effective position to do damage. Then on my next turn I usually bring a unit of immortals through the monolith portal and start blasting away at the enemy. It is a good tactic to use to reposition a large foot presence on the board.

Movement, as in moving from point A to point B on the table, sure.
Movement, as in deep striking, nooooooo. Big no. Get within 1" of anything while attempting to do so and welcome to mishap town- Population: you.

It's really quite dumb that a model this large and powerful (particularly fluffwise) with default built in deepstrike capabilities doesn't have any kind of anti-misshap protection.
Then again, it's already quite silly that the race with by far the most advanced teleporation, engine and dimensional manipulation technologies in fluff is also bereft of a teleportation beacon equivalent...

2 ways of fielding it and it entirely depends on the scenario, army and your mood of the day. Here's how I do it:
HUEHUEHUE - Deep Strike the floating pyramid o'death and zap whatever is nearby. For added fun try bringing out a 20-man mob of Warriors, full squad of Immortals, Shield Lychguards or (competitive games forbid) 20-man blob of Flayed Ones. I've personally have great success with big Warrior squads and Shield Lychguards. You want to aim for the soft, squishy part of the enemy. Like you see that enemy IG Command Squad with Heavy Weapon Teams squatting on an objective? Prime target for trolling. After it drops, use it to teleport even more things out of it and somewhat re-deploy your army. Don't forget to keep zapping things. The only problem is that the Monolith is a fairly big model and if it scatters, its gonna have problems. Anyone remember BA DS Landraiders?
Haters gonna Hate - Use the thing is a moving cover. As mentioned earlier, its a huge model and can confer saving throws to a lot stuff. Despite losing its amazing Living Metal rule from the old Codex, AV 14 all around makes it rather durable. And if the enemy is shooting Lascannons at the moving mountain, it means that your Anni Barges aren't taking any so good good. I like hiding Immortals behind them personally. A neat trick is to have a squad of Immortals sit behind the Monolith then use its teleporting thingy to move infront the the Monolith. However, I don't like this method as much. You could have taken an ADL or something for much less if you wanted cover. Only worth it as a moving cover.

I like to take 3 and ally in a big mek to give all 3 of them a 5++ for a moving wall of tough to destroy pain, take the stormlord to improve the cover save and to add some more s8 power and you have a decent durable list with some good firepower to boot.
