I already have 2 Doom Scythes and have been thinking of getting a couple of Night Scythes for additional support. This led me onto the idea of a Flyer-Cron list. I haven't created one of these before so here's my first attempt, hoping to incorporate the FW Night Shroud; while expensive, I particularly like the model and I feel it could be pretty effective in-game.

Overlord with Warscythe, Mindshackle Scarabs and Phase Shifter

Troops

8x Warriors with Night Scythe

8x Warriors with Night Scythe

8x Warriors with Night Scythe

Heavy Support
1x Doom Scythe

1x Doom Scythe

1x Night Shroud
Total 1347

So this leaves me with roughly 150 points to bulk out my force. I'm a bit confused with the rules on large number of units arriving from reserve and as far as I'm interpreting it, this list wouldn't be legal from that sense.

All suggestions welcome on how to improve this list.

As fliers must start off the board, that's still legal.

Downside, you have to have something on the board, or you auto-lose.

That's why the cool kids take Imotek in their flier heavy lists, as he can stand in the back corner focusing on not-dying while your reserves come in.

I suppose Imotek would also help in the sense that his Night Fighting effects would help the Flyers a fair amount as well. I'm just doing brief calculations in my head at the moment, but I can drop the Overlord and take Imotek, giving me approx 100 pts spare.

Or three units of three scarabs (you have no fast attack as yet).

There is almost always some line of sight blocking terrain somewhere. Especially for those little guys.

Or, you could drop the overlord for a destroyer lord with MSS and semp weave (for the same price), take each group of warriors down to five men each and take six wraiths with whip coils on three. Working it out in my head, I think you can also take a tachyon arrow on the dlord (3+ to hit, rerolling 1s, infinite range, str 10 ap 1 - kill a transport or solo independent character turn one?)... Or don't bother with the whip coils or extra bonus and keep one warrior unit at a good size...

I like this! This unit rocks.

Make sure you look out for skyfire weapons though! Tau can be particularly nasty, the velocity tracker gives the model that has it the option to have the skyfire rule, extra nasty on suits with meltas. Otherwise have fun, this would be great, especially with the Wraiths and Dlord suggestion above. Also the tachyon arrow might help take out a potential threat to fliers before they're even on the board.

Well, I'd reconsider the HQ. The Anniliation Barge is a great choice. I'd take one Doom Scythe and two ABs if you ask me. This would give you room for some Wraiths and DLord instead of an Overlord.

True it's pretty competitive but it's one of the most boring armies in the game to play and to face...

I love playing with flyers. It's a puzzle figuring out how to maximise the time on the board and shooting angles and nowadays there are many ways to counter it that you have to be careful with.

I also have several players at my club who really enjoy playing against me. But maybe they are easily pleased. They'd probably not want to anymore if they played against some really EXCITING army.

Of course that is only my opinion, but I do recognise it as such.

Well, do you really need the Night Shroud?

I want to incorporate a rarer unit into this list, I haven't seen many lists using the NS primarily down to costs, I think it could be a pretty powerful unit.

You need 2 Annihilation Barges at least as ground presence in a cronair. I like the Overlord in cronair I run two in mine (had Cronair since the day 6th Ed dropped literally spent £700 on the book the cool dice and a cronair list) and I do it for the court.

Cronair without death and despair squads is just a waste whilst Stormteks kill any vehicles the Tesla can't.

Well, I agree with Flingitnow that two ABs are a must-have to implement ground presence.

I run 3 Annihilation Barges and they really are a must for Cronair. Having your board presence being just one unit can resell cost you against the teleporting deathstars and anyone with serious ranged firepower.

Ok, after looking at the cost of the Night Shroud, £70 is just too much really, so I'll probably be dropping it. I'm thinking of using the points left over to use Imotekh, as his Night Fighting and Lightning abilities will be of a bonus for such a list. I'm also considering dropping the DLord and Wraiths in favour of another unit, preferably one which can survive a turn or two before the Scythes show up.

Dropping the DLord and Wraiths gives me 307 points to use elsewhere, not including Imotekh who is already taken into account. I could take another unit of Warriors + Scythe, with roughly 140 left. Any thoughts on these changes?
