Most of the players I know localy would be OK with it as long as the weapons are converted to be accurate in both model but also in description of how they are mounted and its made clear before the start of the game what kind of unit this model is supposed to be.
I'm accepting of it when it happens, but personally prefer 'counts as' vehicles to not only be equipped with the right weapons but also have a hull that the represents the armor values,
BS and
HP of the intended accurately. The Jetfighter's hull represents 3
HP while the talon is only supposed to have 2
HP. Not a big deal and I would'nt get upset playing against one but I'd like to see you make some kind of attempt to convert the jet fighter to some how feel lighter or smaller then a normal one.
Right when 6th edition came out I was playing a Inquisition heavy grey knights force. I wanted a flyer for my guys and was sad that the Valkyrie was not available as a henchman transport. So I bought a Valkyrie model and bit ordered the weapons for a stormraven as well as the tail of a storm raven. With a little work I had my "Inquisitorial Valkyrie" that looked more like a Valkyrie but counted as a stormraven. I chose to use the tail of the raven because the raven's profile had a larger rear armor then a Valkyrie. No one had any problems with this model (before I dropped it and broke it) because it had all the right weapons in all the right spots and from 15 feet away was clearly not a valkyrie.
