If the model carring it Dies, it goes away. This is why I pop it the first chance I get.

The real question is, does it still work if the bearer dies, but it was activated that turn?

It does not have to exist in the assault phase after its use.
It just has to exist to be used; the effect happens at a set time after activation.
Kind of like a Blessing or Malediction, they do not go away if the Psyker dies, only at their stated expiration.

Hint* That's why you keep it towards the back of your troops since you take casualties away in the front. Same goes with you Mark of the Wulfen troop. No point having him in the front just to get shot down before he makes it to an assault.

That's one of the slightly disappointing things of 6th, and one of the hardest habits to break.
The standard bearer and Wulfen looked cool leading from the front.
I lost count of the number of games I killed them before my regular opponent finally learnt. And his squads have never looked quite so heroic since...

I think it looks better now personally, love seeing my bezerker horde form up around the Icon of Wrath, rather than playing follow the leader.
