Storm Bolter is an Assault 2 weapon...
Does that mean...

A) in an assault fires 2 times

B) can be used in an assault, otherwise fires twice in the shooting phase

If it fires twice in the assault phase, and a terminator has standard 2 attacks, does that mean he shoots 4 times? Or the two attacks is only for melee WPNs?

What's the standard because I'm confused.

And it has NOTHING to do with assaults, despite it's name.
Neither does an Assault Cannon...

Assault is just the weapon type, meaning you can shoot it and still assault after. It does not give you any bonuses in cc. Read up on weapon types in the BRB and it will be pretty clear.

40k armies: Harlies, Tzeentch Daemons
AoS armies: DoK, Deepkin, Nighthaunt, Tzeentch Daemons, Skaven

Explained in the shooting section.

'Assault' on a ranged weapon only means that you can freely move as much as you wish, up to the maximum distance permitted by unit type, fired an amount of times equal to the number after 'assault' (In this case, two shots, so two dice) and the user may then assault the target he shot at, if in range and it still lives.

It may not be used in melee.

I'm just butchering rules then. I swear I glanced at every section. It's just hard to remember all these dang rules. That's guys.

Don't worry, there's many unhappy naming coincidences in this game.
An Assault Cannon is not an Assault weapon...
A Heavy Flamer isn't a Heavy weapon...
A Mutilator despite it's name is pants...

Ahhh, I just went back to the rule book real quick and see where I may have made my first mistake. We've been playing using pistols in close combat with full shooting values instead of counting them as a close combat melee weapon. I misinterpreted the (all pistols are assault 1) rule. Once again. Thanks guys for clarifying. I see I'll be coming here more often to figure out stuff.

And everyone's favorites, an Emplaced weapon is not the same as a Gun Emplacement

this is a good house rule with buddies. in real games, however much your model may wish to start balsting at point blank range, said model just use the gun as a blunt instrument of death.

Asault = move, shoot and run into CC
Heavy = must remain stationary to shoot. cannot shoot and run into CC (unless over ruled by another rule. see relentless USR)
Rapid = cannot shoot and run into CC (it may snap fire)

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

As I was heavily parafrasing any wording found in a BRB or codex I thought this would be ok. As you have enlightened me otherwise, I will post page and bullet numbers in the furture.

Don't worry Johnny, there's a reason learning the rules is #2 on my list of things I always try to warn people about before getting into 40k. Not that I don't want them to do so, i just feel giving fair warning is the friendly thing to do.

#2 The Rules: "It has a rather large volume of intricate rules which must be learned and remembered but don't let that turn you away! Eventually you'll develop a kind of masochistic love for attempting to translate the overly complex and not so carefully worded rules that define how things work in the 40k universe... well, sort of define things anyways. So don't worry to much about it, it only hurts at first..."

-It is not the strongest of the Tyranids that survive but the ones most adaptive to change.
