Hey guys so I'm set to do my first 1000pt army out of five and picked Ultramarines for the poster boys but I don't want to do the standard ultramarine blue. Looking for more of a bluish grey dark look. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I personally prefer to use the Vallejo Game Colors Ultramarine over the Citadel Macragge Blue.

But I'm not sure what you're asking, you mean more like Space Wolves? Can you post an example of what you're looking for?

GW greys usually have either a green hue to them or a blue one. Use the greys that have the blue hue. Mix with a very tiny amount of blue (approprite to the darkness of the grey you're currently mixing) to keep them from looking like Space Wolves.

I suppose what I'm looking for or to do is get a more "realistic" color style or vibe that gritty grayish blue. The normal Ultramarines blue looks almost comic book to me or old school.

Mate my unknown legion is based on a mix between ultra marines and crimson fists. I think it may be your colour scheme. Just bear with me Im an old school gamer so i use the old colours.

Basecoat: regal blue
Layer: ultramarines blue
Drybrush: very light codex grey
Ink: watered down regal blue
Layer: ultramarines blue

Or for rank and file:
Base with regal, layer with ultra marines mixed with codex grey 3:1 make sure you leave some black showing it distinguishes the layer effect, kind of blended when you think about it
