Hey Dakka
I'm doing some remodeling later this year when it warms up, and part of the remodeling effort will be a hobby/RPG room. I'll be setting up a workspace for my 40K and Warmachine stuff, and I'm wanting to set up a table and chairs for when I host my RPG groups. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for furniture and lighting, as well about how much floor space I'll need. The largest group I'm in has 7 people in it, including myself.

Nice stuff but it seems to all be made for very short people. Those gaming tables are ridiculously short.

This company is ridiculously overpriced. You're paying custom, hand made, Amish quality furniture making rates for stuff that is none of that.
Seriously, for the amount of money they ask for their product, you could contract a furniture maker / woodworker / carpenter for far less. I've looked into it.
I love the idea, but i just boggle at how they want 4 grand for a table with a couple drawers and a few hinges on it.
-------------
Back on topic - how big is the space, and what is your budget ? How much storage do you have ? Can you link some pics ?
By "remodel" do you mean literally just purchasing some new furniture, or are you doing some renovations ?
It's hard to give suggestions without knowing all the above factors. Furniture and lighting are functions of both the room, but your style as well. Without knowing about the room a little more we're all just throwing spitballs against the wall in terms of suggestions.

They tend to be aimed at gamers sitting down, I think, more that standing wargamer-types. I've seen them at conventions and they're very cool looking.
The price is high, but it is really good quality furniture as far as I can tell. Really good quality. This has the minus that ou'd probably feel really bad when you inevitably spill paint on it, or a cold glass leaves a ring, or the marker pen goes flying, etc.
We'd love to get the GMs valet, or something like it, for a friend who usually ends up pulling a chair over for misc. book storage and such when we play RPGs. It'd be perfect as a mini-library that can be rolled into a corner between games (Note: the one they show may not be wheeled) and keep the gaming stuff tidied up between games. It's not cheap either, though, despite being the cheapest piece on the shelf.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

A full size pool table is 8x4... perfect to put a sheet of plywood with a "grass-mat" on. Also you can entertain non-gamers.

Depending on quality of pool table, I've had a few games without plywood and mat (so gaming directly on the table surface.
Also, if the table is nice enough, Brunswick make a Table Conversion kit for their tables... this way you can game, and you can game and game some more

Build the shelves and that yourself ... really it is not complicated. I built shelves for my Blu-rays and DVD's for in the living room out of pine 1"X8" (it is actually 3/4" X 7') then built a shelving system for books in my computer room. Thing is like 8' long and has 3 main shelves and 8 small shelves. The largest cost is the wood and screws.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |
