Hey all,
I am just getting into 40k even though I have a sizable collection of SM I am mainly focusing on DA. I have posted a few links on here and repeatedly get told only thing viable is mass LR or bikes. I understand, but my community is not the world class level and it is fun tourney at a local event I am gearing for. That said, my question was how common is Interceptor in good armies? I know Tau is ripping me a new one no matter what I do as they pack mass amounts of AP2 and high str attacks. They also have interceptor on riptides for 5 points... Anyhow, is it common as I would really like to try, and likely fail with a Terminator heavy DW Assault army. I have the models I needs for it and before I run out of time wanted to know if everything else packs ap2 intercetpor mass fire as part of it's arsenal. I assume plasma cannon or an equivalent are popular, which eat terms.

Sorry this is in the wrong section. Not sure how to move it now.

So DW striking in stuff is normally safe? There are no forts allowed in this tourney but some forgeworld, not that I expect a lot. That would make me feel much better about bringing Term heavy army.

There's a few FW units that have interceptor thanks to GW's stupidity in making interceptor the only way to let skyfire units shoot at ground targets at full BS instead of just limiting interceptor to the free shot at arriving reserves. Most of them aren't too scary against terminators because of poor AP, the main one to worry about is LC Sabres (IG HWS substitute) but even those are just single shots. IIRC there are no FW blast weapons with interceptor.

Also, don't forget about Coteaz and his special "I get to kill you if you arrive near me" rule. Inquisition is battle brothers with every imperial army, and Coteaz is a dirt cheap auto-include in virtually every imperial army. He can join any squad (plasma cannons are especially popular) and make it suicide to deep strike into a large part of the table.

I had no idea about that rue so thanks. How exactly does it work? On range of the weapon I assume from what you are saying. Thanks for advice.

Coteaz and his unit get to shoot at any unit that arrives within 12" from reserves, and this is for each unit that does it without any effects in the controlling player's turn, so it's like interceptor but better, albeit in a limited range. He's pretty great for a whopping hundred points and a level 2 Psyker.

An important note is that it's 12 inches from Coteaz's model, not from his unit.

"I've Been Expecting You" basically sacrifices the tremendous range of the Interceptor rule for more shooting power. Honestly if you're facing a Grey Knights opponent you should be more concerned about Warp Quake. It's a psychic power that creates giant zones of "if you deep strike here, you automatically mishap".

Riptides can intercept with an AP2 pie plate.

Anyone in your area play with Forgeworld?

Though I doubt you'll see one across the table, Dark Angels have a unit with Interceptor. The Forgeworld Contemptor Mortis Pattern Dreadnought (Dark Angels variety), when standing still, has Skyfire and Interceptor. This is no small thing, as it can be armed with all kinds of shootiness, the best probably being the Kheres Assault Cannons (24" S6, AP4, Heavy 6 Rending....each arm (so yeah, 12 shots)) though it can take Lascannon and other more traditional arms. It can also be upgraded with a Cyclone Missle Launcher, so it's an overall pretty awesome gun platform.

Of course you could always have both. Coteaz joins a C:SM plasma/grav/whatever squad, and then the Farsight IC Riptide joins the squad as well*. Now Coteaz gets to fire the whole blob of guns (including the Riptide) at anything that arrives within 12", and the Riptide gets to fire again in interceptor mode. Overkill? Probably. Hilarious? Certainly.

*Yes, it's legal. Both of them are battle brothers with the squad they're joining.

Quite a bit. Tau have the ability to have a bunch. Horus Heresy has the ability to give almost any infantry unit interceptor by adding an elite choice medic with a scanner to a unit. Mortis dreadnoughts and Contemptors have it for both 30k and 40k. I think those new space marine AA tanks have it. DE has none, IG I don't think has any(unless they FAQ'd the Hydra), Nids have none now but will probably have some in their new codex this month as will IG in their new codex shortly, not sure if Necrons have anything with it.

So to answer your question, the two most popular armies(Tau and Marines of all flavors and eras) have the majority of Interceptor units and can have a fair bit of it.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

pretty much all armies have access to it. a few more than others but prettymuch all an it is becoming more and more common with each new release. Thinkmonly bugs have been left out of that but with all their stuff, they dont need it. lol

Have Coteaz man a Quad gun while you're at it, heh. Coteaz and O'Vesa: keeping our skies safe.
