I decided to create a vehicle for my ork army, being hesitant to buy the jewel encrusted plastic that GW sells I took the cheap route and scrapped anything near my desk regardless of origin, as it turns out, my orks have scrapped a truck toy, a bunch of necron remains plus doomsday cannon and the broken remains of a nokia phone in their frenzied rush to loot something. Normally my levels of care fall below feelings of guilt or fear of being laughed at for being poor. But as I am still building the abomination I felt that my idea was going to fall behind the lines of "whats wrong with you"

I am sure there is more to it then that, but should I bother finishing the ragtag model or just scrap the scraps and fork out the cash for a real model?

I would finish it, it is the orky thing to do and it could be a really cool model when you are done!

"I don't have a good feeling about this... Your mini looks like it has my mini's head on a stick..."

"From the immaterium to the Imperium, this is Radio Free Nostramo! Coming to you live from the Eye of Terror, this is your host, Captain Contagion, bringing you the latest Heretical hits!"

Finish it, you have committed enough resources to do it now. Even if it is utter zog, have your fun with the thing. I want to see what you have been able to make from the legendary ore called nokium. Paint it to tastes.

Please.

If people would laugh at you for not being able to afford 40k ... well you dont need to play with those people.. they're dicks!

That said... 40k is really expensive! And theres a certain amount of 'well I shelled out and put in countless hours of work into my army... why cant you?' Which is kind of fair.

There are some utterly amazing scratch builds out there
And if it looks good, and looks to be what it represents in game terms then most will gladly play against it,

I would be looking at styrene sheet (aka plasticard) and various rods/tubes as a good scratch building material thats not overly expensive.

If your looking for cheaper models check ebay and the likes for 2nd hand, poorly painted figures and then strip the paint off them and make them your own

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

I say enjoy finishing it/ painting it up and then judge it.

Even if you decide it isn't really good enough to be used as a model you could scrap it and turn it in to terrain (perhaps a crater/marker for a wrecked ork vehicle).
