It is not unknown that in some circumstances, regiments that meet and fight together may end up merging into a single command structure, maybe on a temporary basis. However, it is also known that Catachans don't like taking orders from people who aren't Catachan, one of the reasons for the Oops, Sorry Sir rule applying to Commissars working with Catachans. But my question is, let's say there's a campaign somewhere and the Catachans are working alongside Cadians on a planet or in a sector. Cadians can get reinforcements, but the Catachans can't, so in the event of the Catachan command structure being disrupted, do you think it's at all likely that they'd accept taking direct command from Cadians. Say, a platoon of Catachans gets their commander killed, and the only available replacement is a Cadian 2LT fresh out of the Officer Academy. Somehow I don't think that would be cricket for the hardened Catachans to accept a foreign Ensign Newbie, but would they accept it if it was the only option?

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

I think if they earnt the respect of the catachans it would be fine. But the problem you bring up is the same for all imperial regiments mixing together.

No freaking way, the Catachans will be led unofficially by their highest rank, the fresh 2nd Cadian LT can lead all he want, the Catachans will do their thing.

Krieg! What a hole...

Except he's a Cadian, so he won't take gak, especially if there's more and more Cadians coming or there's already more of them

Ok think of this: can you tell Rambo what to do?

Killing is easy. Being politically correct is a pain in the ass...

Halfway between nowhere and anarchy

I always thought they would work together if they had a mutual objective, but work WITH not FOR the Cadians.

Cadian thinks "we need to take the objective and proceed to the extraction point"

While Catachan thinks "c'mon, let's kill as many nid scum as we can then duck out before they get it together!"

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This would mainly work in a Catachan detatchment situation, I doubt there would be any success if ten Cadians tried to take command of a platoon of catachans.

Or think of this, can you tell a mentally insane Regimental Sergeant Major with a pacestick what to do? Try doing it yourself, its not something I would recommend doing...

Can you tell a corporal what to do when you're on a recruit course?

Off topic: I saw a Corporal yell at someone at basic training for wearing their slouch indoors. Turned out to be a Major. Desperately-trying-not-to-lol-time ensued.

On topic: Hardened fighters and bounty hunters are seen to be in almost awe of the Kasrkin, so if it was one of them I could definitely see the Catachans giving him some (perhaps grudging) respect, and follow him.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

The Cadian commander would have learnt techniques to cover this in the academy, come to a mutual goal with the catachans, play them to their strengths that way they do what you need but their also happy about it.
