Hey everyone,

In the rulebook it is stated that certain specific attacks from above target a vehicle's side armour, even though the shots itself may be fired from any direction.
However, when a model fires at a vehicle from higher ground, is there a point where he fires at a vehicle's side armour as well?

For example, if a vehicle is located 1" away from a 12" high building with an enemy unit on top of it, does that unit still fire at the vehicle's armour facing the unit, or at the side armour by standard?

Alternatively, can the rules for 'if you can't see the side of the vehicle facing you, but you can see some other part so you can fire at it with a +1 cover save'-principle if you can't see the front/rear armour but can see the top armour?

Also, if such a rule excists: where to draw the line? At what point does it turn from a <relevant facing> attack into a side armour attack?

nope, elevation does not matter, you hit the side you are facing unless its barrage weapons.

The best way to think about these rules is '2 dimensional' because of how little rules we have for dealing with the third dimension. I honestly believe questions about elevation only showed themselves during play testing. The book was probably already considered 'ready for printing,' so they didn't want to revamp the entire thing to address these handful of situations. Instead they threw a line or two in, one stating you will 'rarely' have to deal with elevation at that, and called it a day.

All speculation of course, but given how little rules we have for dealing with third dimensions...

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

The Cityfight supliment, released an edition or two ago, contained rules for firing on tanks from very elevated positions. But for whatever reason (complexity probably) these were not included in 6th Ed.
