Subject: Horus Heresy Emperor's Children - Tactical Squads?
|
 |
Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions
|
Long story short, I looked through Betrayal and noticed that pretty much every Emperor's Children pictured has the Aquila on it's chest. I am wondering if this is normal of even the standard tactical trooper. Forgeworld does not have currently have a mk iv or mkiii kit so I was wondering what people think of using the Palatine Blade bodies with the Aquila and standard forgeworld mkiv and mkiii helmets with normal tactical trooper arms and Tigrus Pattern bolters with mkiii and mkiv shoulder pads.
Do you guys think that is going a bit overboard for tactical squads or is it right for the fluff should I just be using a mix of regular mkiii and mkiv? I am trying to be as true to the fluff as possible.
Thanks in advance!

It's incredibly overboard. Fluff wise, the aquilla was reserved for great heroes and the Emperor's Children legion exclusively. That the EC got to use it for everyone was a big deal, although I forget exactly why they got that permission.
Wait, I may have misunderstood. Are we talking about other legions using it or Emperor's Children tac squads using it?

I recall in Fulgrim(the BL book), it being stated the EC were granted the right to wear the aquila. The whole legion. It seems otherwise in 30k land to be a symbol of high rank, IE Garro, or something granted for exceptional service.

It's true to the fluff.
It's noted that the Emperor's Children are unique among the pre-Heresy legions for being allowed by the Emperor to bear the Aquilla as their official Legion heraldry. It was an honor bestowed to Fulgrim by the Emperor for reasons I can't recall atm (I think it was because of some exemplary campaign they undertook, or something).
Only post-heresy do you see the Aquila commonly on Space Marines.

I mean only for the Emperor's Children army I am in the process of building.

I just checked Lexicanum, and apparently it was due to protecting the wounded emperor during a battle. On top of already doing all the diplomatic protection missions due to their perfectionism.
So yes, if it's the Emperor's Children Pre-Heresy go nuts with the aquillas. Anyone else should leave them at home.

Mk4 armor looks really similar to the Mk6 armor found on just about every 40k marine. You could actually save yourself loads of money just by using the standard tactical marine bodies from the 40k kits. Another possibility is using the bodies off 40k Sternguard, which have the added benefit of tabards, making what would be even your basic troop look regal.
Just an idea.

Thanks for the idea! The other suggestion that was given to me is to use mkiii with brass etching Aquila's.
