Hey Dakka,

I've been doing a large amount of searching but I can't seem to locate scale-appropriate checkerplate or corrugated plasticard for scratchbuilding. I'm sure a bunch of the dedicated modellers would know where to obtain them, or what exactly is the appropriate scale. Sorry if this has been posted before, or is in the incorrect place.

Bonus points if you can find one in Australia! (Good luck on that though )

Plastruct.com make sheets of it.

ANY decent model shop should be able to get it.

Bear in mind that what we call checkerplate and what the Americans call checkerplate are two different things, though. Try also looking for "diamondplate".

I got a pack of 2 sheets from my local model store a few weeks back (slightly larger than A4) for about $10 or so - so it's not cheap, but that will do a pile of bases.

Thanks chrome. I probably should have looked harder.

For the sheeting, what would be the appropriate scale? Probably G scale 1:24 train I would imagine?

My local hobby store is pretty bad, though i suppose they could order it in for me but it may just be simpler from Plastruct themselves I suspect. Regardless, cheers mate.

Somewhere in south-central England.

28mm Heroic is a mixed scale which ranges between about 1/56 and 1/32 (even larger for weapons) depending on which bit you look at.

1/24 scale sheet won't be the correct scale but it will look good to the eye.

I tend to use HO or O guage stuff like this.

I'm lucky, though. Not only do I have a model railway specialist store a short trip away (15 minutes by bus, 10 by train and 30 on foot) but a brother-in-law is a train buff and one of his mates runs another store.

I'll ask my Canberran mates where they get their hobby supplies from. It may be that some of the games stores in canberra might have what you want also - like Defiant Gaming or Good Games.

Ah, cheers. It's just for plating and sheeting on Ork vehicles, so it doesn't need to be super accurate.

I have been looking at some of the stores around my area but they don't seem to have it. The UK is a bit blessed with having a very strong hobby history though, I suppose.

Thanks a bunch mate. I've not yet checked those stores - I may make a job of it and go this weekend with some mates. If you have Canberrans who can confirm exactly where has it, that would be amazing.

Just outside the gates of hell

Evergreen scale models makes styrene sheets and other construction shapes similar to Plastruct. They are based out of the US but you can look for hobby-exporter and see how to get them as well. The quality is not as solid as Plastruct but they cost less.
Plastruct gives you different material options as well

Also you can look to see if there are is anyone who carries JTT Microscale.

http://www.jttmicroscale.com/viewcategory.asp?DirID=166

Plastruct has a larger selection, but they really like their stuff, so you have to pay more to get it. JTT costs about half as much, and have a pretty good selection, just not as broad of distribution.
