So one of my new year's resolutions was to get to grips with some new techniques. With a Razorback nearing completion, I thought it'd be a good place to try oil washes and dry pigments. I've never tried either before, so it was a bit nerve wracking to start messing up my tank! In hindsight, I think my oil wash was a bit thick, and I ended up trying to cover it up with my soot, so that ended up too heavy. Happy with the mud though. Incidentally, the soot was a bit lumpy - its valjeo slate grey. Any ideas? I thought it might be worth grinding with a mortar and pestle next time?

Anyway, feedback appreciated. Do you prefer it clean or lived in?

I prefer it clean if it's Emperor's Children (looks like it, or an adaptation of it), and I also just prefer clean tanks.

I am a huge fan of clean. In my Guard regiment my men are not allowed to be dirty for more than a few minutes, even in battle, same goes for tanks. I just love the clean look.

Although the leaves look great on the dirty one.

My vote = clean

It's not actually emperor's children. I came up with the scheme before I saw their colours! Pretty damned similar though.

I much prefer factory-fresh. Nice purples, by the way.

I think I like tanks that have a clean look, but are showing some battle wear/damage. Mud and dirt look pretty neat, and yours is done well, although I'm not sure I would want to live with the dirty look all the time myself.

I love your mud effect, it's really well done. However, I would agree with the general consensus that I would prefer to use a clean tank for every battle. Your filthy one would be at home at the heart of a diorama, but for me, not on the battlefield.

While I generally prefer a farm fresh look, I think that the dirty one is just a little too dirty for my taste. Some bits are a little over done. I think that the mud and plant matter along the front and sides is perfect though.

I have not been the person I was since I stopped being him.

I love the dirty version!! Your right about the exhaust though, a shame.

I vote clean for space marines. I like the weathered look with my Orks. Thanks for sharing.
