Ok I've got a friend that wants to start playing. I have my old blood angels for him to use (or me as I'm the teacher) but it's been so long since I've played them I'm lost. I have 50 plus marines, pods, a whirlwind, dakka and assault terminators, sang gaurd, mephy, the space hulk box, aaaaaaand scouts, 5 snipers and 5 regulars. Oh and a command squad. Obviously it was and alpha strike type force. I don't mind subbing stuff in for a while as he decides if he wants to play or not. But I could really use the help as the matchup will be v tau. I also have a huge box o bits that could build another 20 marines. Oh and 2 dreads. I like the 14 AV wall idea and I have a handful of lemans that could sub. Thanks for your time!

What point cost? Can you use regular marines? What are the weapons the marines have? What does the Tau look like?

Ok sorry I should know better. Let's say whatever point cost is good to learn at. Let's do a low point one like 750 or so and a bigger one. Say 1500.

Tau can bring two riptides no tanks. Kroot fw's crisis teams all that.

Optimize for tau because that's where he will start. Meta is eldar, necron, sm, tau.

I would do something simple. The biggest point I must stress is do not annihilate him with a riptide. Nothing makes noobs angry faster than than some very powerful unit that can't be killed in in smaller games. Especially if they've never seen it before.

I would use basic troops for for the 750 so they get a feel for the game.

I will let him play with the tau I'm thinking. I don't mind letting him rotflstomp me.
