Hi

I'm planing an Chaos space marine army of unknown size and need some help, I will expand it over time. I like the idea of champions and the boon table and want to use it as much as possible, guess it will be a melee heavy army.

My plan is to have a Khorne/Nurgle themed army called the blood pacters, each unit can have different armour but all share the blood red shoulder pad to show their allegiance to the chaos lord I haven't named yet.

I will have daemon princes but not often as a HQ choice in the army since they will appear through the boon table if they do.

So far I have:

1 Lord in terminator armour.
10 Chaos space marines
5 terminators.
1 Kharn the betrayer
1 Land raider

1 Daemon prince and 2 spawns (for the boon table)

My questions:
What units shall I add?
How shall I equip them?
How shall I equip the characters in the squads?
Are chosen worth their points? I would say no.
Berzerkers are a must (pure coolness), are they worth their points? If shall I have more Berzerkers than CSM?

I dislike Heldrakes and will rather not take it. As well as the forgefiend model I find quite ugly. All other choices are OK. But try to stick with Khorne/Nurgle.

To have in mind. I already have a Infantry heavy Imperial guard army that will act as detachment to this army or vice versa. I was planing to add Cultist but Since I have 200+ Guardsmen they might be unnecessary. They are quite cool though and I might consider a group or two of them. should they be melee or ranged?

Looking at the Space marine codex many of their terminators, vanguard and characters can have storm shield. I feel CSM to be a bit squishy.

I want this army to be fun but also somewhat competitive.

Thanks for help

One persons idea of fun is different to another's but in general people seem to feel heldrake's are a killjoy.

The chosen are not worth their points. At all. The only upside is that they can have 5 Meltaguns in a squad of 5, so if you stick I'm a Rhino you can go MC hunting and such.

Berserkers are pretty dang awesome, but it depends on who you are going up against. Against Space Marines, you can have better choices as their axes are only AP4. They won't slaughter Marines, but against other army's they can be pretty darn awesome in close combat,

Plauge Zombies! You still have a slot open for Typhus (who is a beast), and plenty of room for Plauge Zombies. You get 35 Feel No Pain, Fearless models at only 4 points apiece. They are pretty much the best objective holders you can get in the codex. Plus, they are zombies. FUN!

Yeah, Heldrakes are a killjoy. If you are interested in tournament play, you should get one though. CSM aren't considered a very competitive army, so a Heldrake gives you the boost you need.

True true, I guess I want a personal army with lots of character. I like the idea of my characters turning into abominations and daemons. How to make this in the best way? I want it to be able to win, but not utilize every single foul trick CSM got.

No Heldrakes for me. Not now at least.

I like zombies

Sadly all my friends play Marines, except me. But I like Berzerkers too much for not having them.
