If a unit of Ork big guns are behind an aegis defence line and you cannot see the Gretchen but you can see the guns can you shoot at them? And if so the. How do the wounds work? You cannot see the gretchin at all because they are too short. If a unit that is too short to see over the defence line then can they still shoot or does it affect line of sight?

The Big Guns can't shoot without LoS from a grot, and if you shoot at them, you'll normally only wound the Big Guns themselves as they're the only models you can see.

So basically a terrible idea.

'Course, you could just stuff them in some area terrain. Or in the open. 3pt T7 grots are not something you really need to protect.

Yeah, the ADL blocks line of sight exactly the same as any other solid terrain. So if the models behind it can't see over it, they can't shoot over it, and if they can't be seen, they can't be attacked.

Agree with the others.
But, I suppose with SHA you could by some walls/barricades to go along the ADL. Place the grotz+big gunz behind the lower wall, and lootas behind the ADL. (Im not sure how low/ high the walls are allowed be) You will loose that extra +1 when going to ground though.

There have been at least 2 other threads on this very topic in the last week or so. the last one was closed when someone brought in a seperate agenda and took it off track.

Essentially the grots cannot see over the walls in order to fire the guns. You could 'MFA or use non-standard grots (which many consider MFA to see over the walls but players will likely call you on it.
If the guns can see over the walls, it might be possible to put them at ends of the wall where the grots can stand off to the side enough to see. it might also be possible to uild the wall together in order to produce several "ends" for you to do this. I have not tried that as i dont play orks. try different configurations and see what you can come up with.

...Honestly, I don't see the point of spending 50 points to give them a 4+ cover save when you can spend 3 points to give them another T7 wound.
