The name referring to one more trick tyranids need to perform when making an all comers list.
At least 4 things a tyranid list all commers list needs is :
- deal with AV14
- Have anti flyer
- Scooring troops
- Synapse.
How do we get enough synapse in an all commers list?

I haven't played enough of the new Tyranids to know for sure, but it seems the best is to find units that fit one or two of those rolls at the same time.
Zoanthropes can deal with AV14 and provide Synapse
Hive Tyrants with Wings can deal with Flyers, provide synapse, and potentially AV14 (if you assault it or roll Warp Blast.)
Crone can do AV14 and anti-flyers
Scoring Troops is the tough one. Gaunts are the cheap option but can run away if not within synapse. Warrior can provide synapse and scoring but you have to be careful of S8. Tervigons are also another option that can also deal with AV14 with smash but they are expensive.
The lists I have been thinking of usually involve:
Hive Tyrants
Tyranid Primes
Zoanthropes
Warriors
Gaunts
Trygon Primes
Hive Guard
Carnifexes
My lists are usually restricted by the models I currently have so I don't have a lot of new units in my lists.

Tervigons and flying Hive Tyrants continue to do all of those things.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I played against Tyranids that had this problem today in a 2v2 with My Eldar and a Friends Tau vs two Nid players.
The problem was that his Synapse needed to stay at the back protected, but had to move forward because they where short range (Zoans) or Melee (Warriors) or where his only way of taking out path finders early (Flyrant). The fact they had to get this close lead to us focussing them down (Not to easily mind, the Flyrant must of passed 8 grounding checks!) leading his gant hordes to go awry. I quite like the new instinctive behaviour tables, they looked quite fun but they benefited me by forcing the enemies Termagants to fall back.
His Zoanthropes and Warriors had to get to close, exposing them to much fire ad the Flyrants (there where two) had to stop just infront of our collective armies to kill off the pathfinders, which he did. By turn 3 he had done a lot of damage, but we killed all his synapse and half his army was retreating. I am not sure how you could fix this, but a Shellrant would of gone a long way to making sure to keep the whole army going where he wanted.

The former being far less useful for doing just about anything other than providing some synapse and sitting on an objective (and you have to be careful what you provide synapse for...termagants want to stay away), while the latter took a hit in it's resilience.

A Flyrant, Tervigon (still think these guys are useful) and a brood of 2 Zoans is good Synapse coverage from the off, as well as all being useful units and actually, together, providing all those things the OP listed.
You could include more Synapse, but I'll just be rolling with that in my lists to begin with, and see how I go. Another Zoan or even a naked brood of Warriors may be included if I feel the nee d to. Bear in mind that certain units don't even need to be in Synapse range. For a lone Carnifex w/ Adrenal Glands (another useful unit), failing Instinctive Behaviour is, in most situations, no bad thing at all.

Tough Tyrant Guard

@alex No more shellrant. No way to get a 2+ on a tyrant anymore (without Ymgarl, but that is cc only.)
Synapse is going to be the defining list issue for 6th. Go swarm and need a lot or go Nidzilla and keep it to a miniumum.
