usually people go with
5 bikes (2x melta,combi-melta) 135
4 bikes + attack bike (2melta,1combi-melta,multi-melta) 169

but is it worth it to go with
8 bikes + attack bike (2melta,1combi-melta,multi-melta) 253
and combat squad them to have 3 bikes (2x melta, combi-melta) and the MM attack bike + another squad of 5 normal bike

that way you dont waste bolter shot on melta target since all 4 bikes in first squad have melta weapon and its like paying 84pts for another scoring unit of 5 bikes but without special weapon

what do people think about it?

This is actually a pretty cool idea. It brings specialization into a bike force which is usually left with wasted potential. Nice one

The downside is the loss of ablative wounds. Splitting the squad like that means I shoot all my shots at the melta unit. If I kill half the squad, I've destroyed that unit's tank hunting potential.

The normal method lets your squad lead with the bolter models, so that the enemy has to kill at least 2 models before you lose melta.

I think you would be better off buying 4 and the attack bike rather than going for the combat squad. However if you are going for the combat swuad have 2 melta weapons in one and three in the other(one is the combi). If you are going to have them going after tanks than might as well improve their odds of doing something instead of wasting a bunch of bolters.

Personally I would put all melta in one and the rest bolters to focus fire power.

People who stopped buying GW but wont stop bitching about it are the vegans of warhammer

Naked bikers are not worth it, they just clog up the field for the guys with weapons that matter

yeah it might not worth it because those naked bikes are going to take wound first so im gonna loose some bolter shot but my melta are going to be more resilient
but after the first turn the sarge combi is going to be old stuff and the 2W attack bike so i can still loose 2 before removing a melta

which one is the best

5 bikes (2x melta + combi-melta)
4 bikes and attack bike (2x melta + combi-melta + multi-melta)
or forget the combi and go for
4 bikes and attack bike (2x melta + multi-melta

This is in my honest opinion a terrible idea. Even with ablative wounds Melta Bikes are high priority, without ablative woulds you make it very easy to kill the bikes, giving up First Blood and a Kill Point in addition to 3 dead bikes.
