I came up with this list while debating whether or not on foot Hive Tyrants were still useful compared to Flyrants. I still feel that they can be, especially as dakka tyrants.

Here is the list.

HQ

Hive Tyrant: x2 TL Devourers w/ brainleech worms: 195
* x2 Tyrant Guard: 100

Hive Tyrant: x2 TL Devourers w/ brainleech worms, toxin sacs: 205
* x2 Tyrant Guard: 100

TROOPS

x30 Termagaunts: 120

x30 Termagaunts: 120

Tervigon: Crushing Claws: 205

Tervigon: Crushing Claws: 205

HEAVY SUPPORT

Carnifex: x2 TL Devours w/ brainleech worms: 150

Carnifex: x2 TL Devours w/ brainleech worms: 150

Carnifex: x2 TL Devours w/ brainleech worms: 150

Carnifex: x2 TL Devours w/ brainleech worms: 150

Carnifex: x2 TL Devours w/ brainleech worms: 150

2000 pts

Gaunts as always lead the charge. Tyrants and Fexes stay behind them to get cover saves. One tervigon stays in the rear as a backfield objective holder, the other moves forward, using the gaunts it spawns as cover. Tyrants and Fexes are my anti-air (96 TL S6 shots, 24 of those at BS4) as well as anti-tank and generally anti everything. With luck one or both of my tyrants will get catalyst, giving them and another fex FnP. I considered putting the fexes in units, but decided to split them apart to increase target saturation. I gave the Tervigons crushing claws so they can take out vehicles, but I'm thinking perhaps I should give them Adrenal Glans so that they'll be able to run faster and get to the objectives quicker.

How are you going to work around synapse issues? From what I can tell, only two synapse creatures in the entire list.
That effectively means you're gonna have to cram that entire list into a 24" bubble assuming you keep both tyrants exactly 12" apart.

As soon as one dies you're in big trouble, and if you face anything that ignores cover, it's gonna be over fast.

Hence why I said Gaunts will spend most of their time going to ground, since doing so ignores the effects of IB. I don't expect gargoyles to live long enough for this to be a problems. Fexes are in their own unit so they won't eat themselves. In fact they may actually benefit from IB (getting rage).

I've considered replacing the gargoyles and toxin sacs on one Hive Tyrant with a barebones Tervigon...

This won't work. They'll target your tyrants and the carnifexes will be useless thanks to IB. Plus unless you've gotten your troops to the objectives you hope to grab by the end of turn two or three (when your flyrants will most likely be dead, as they are such obvious targets) they won't be moving anywhere. IB will most definitely not benefit your carnifexes, and if you think it will you need to read the table again.

They might not eat themselves but they will not shoot like you payed the points for.

I see both your points, I've updated the list now to include Tervigons.
