Hello everyone. With the release of the new Tyranid codex I have been very interested in running a mass flyer style list of sorts as looking over the new Harpy and Crone they seem pretty good especially with regeneration. I was thinking of running the following:

-x3 Harpy or Crones
-x2 Flytyrants
-x1 Herodule (don't remember what it is called but it is the Lords of war choice from the escalation book) at high point values, 2000 points or higher.

the rest of the army would be filled out with the best units to support all 5 of my flyers. My question to you all are what units you think would best support this style of Army, and what do you think of this army in general. The idea would be that I could potentially start all five on the table to start the game as they are monstrous creatures which would allow me to have 5 flyers on the table turn 1. Thanks for posting guys!

Since no one has taken a crack at this I will, I like the idea of this army as I run a similar Flyer heavy army with my Elysians, and the fact you can have all your flyers on the table turn 1 to start the game is a big advantage that you can take advantage of against several armies, especially if you give them regeneration. The only down side that I can see is that you may be very limited on your troops and objective taking units which may be an issue but if you spam termagaunts with some venomthropes they should be able to last awhile and survive for taking objectives.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

FMCs are good support pieces. The enemy needs to have something else to worry about. Nothing there has any AP to it, so you will be getting very few wounds to shooting against any MEQ.

Earth

from experience with the Flarpy list is broadsides, even without Velocity trackers they will murder the harpies and leave you with very little in return.

Here is what I tried earlier vs a triptide list

Flyrant x2 with usual loadout

3 harpies

3 naked mawlocs

4 lictors

2 units of outflanking stealers

suffice to say 1 mawloc came up under the broadsides, they didn't die so I did another attack, they lost all bar 1 guy so I misshaped back into reserves, the 2nd mawloc came up and killed it, this was after they had killed 1 harpy and wounded my tyrant over 2 turns, not a bad result.

I suggest taking mawlocs if you are going to run a Flarpy list

Definetly minimum units of stealers look like the troops choice to go with. I would say to compare your army with codex daemons flying circus.

2D6 S 6 shots from a slaanesh daemon prince
5D6 S 5 shots from fateweaver
Psychic scream + puppetmaster from Bel'kor
4D6 S 5 shots from a lord of change.

So that's the kind of damage level you need to build to. Not that it can't be done (flyrant already shoots on that level and is cheaper). Key will be keeping them alive since most of the time the stuff hitting them will be AP 4 or better.

Keeping in the air will suck too since you don't have any rerolls and no invulnerable to help with falling damage.
