After two years i've decided the necron painting is repetitive and boring, so, I need a new army you guys seem like the best people to ask, say what you think and why, it has to be CHALLENGING to paint lets go, oh and no Orcs unless......

I like to think I'm unique snake eyes. :p

Eldar and imperial guard would be my suggestions.

Eldar: Heaps of freedom, its not uncommon for eldar to be a big mash of different colours or all uniform, but each squad (granted you dont play netlists) will be different asthetically and so on. Heaps of cool painting. But a lot of squads have limited modelling.

Imperium: Any human model you fancy can be conscripted into the imperial guard. An outdated army based on ww2 americans? Easy just buy a box of historical models and tanks. Future sci fi samurai? Easy a box of historical samurai with lasguns (heaps on Ebay/victoria miniatures) the list goes on. Plus faces are a challenge for most painters i think... But then you usually will have many models to paint and unless you are doing an army made up of multiples regiments you will be painting production line.

The guard can be way cheaper and if you decide to go with them i can help you find heaps of cool sites that can hopefully fit the theme. With eldar you are generally stuck with GW.

Daemons would be best for you, I think. Complex, challenging, and the total opposite of the Necrons you've come to loathe painting.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

I think Eldar are the best for you. There are so many painting schemes you can do and you don't have to stay 1 scheme throughout your army. Models are really nice with lots of complexity in painting depending on what scheme you want... Way better than painting crons repeatedly

Modeling there isn't a lot of modeling and conversions you can do but there are some you can do just depends how creative you are.

Chaos space marines are pretty good for painting, lots of schemes to use and lots of opportunities for conversions tho so that's something to think about too.

Yes but if you where ansure of a good ice cream flavour would it not be best to ask what other people think and go try some of them based on what you tell them you like? At the end of the day he is still choosing but it seems he is looking to have his eyes opened to other parts of the hobby he hasnt come accross.

If you like unit markings and ranks, etc... Then IG would get my vote. If you want easy to paint quickly and still look good: Nids the anything PA.

Yeah, Eldar. When I had a hard time painting the same army over and over I made a Eldar/Dark Eldar army. not only are the Eldar colorful, you have many aspect warriors to choose from also. Scorpions, firehawks, warp spiders, just so many different colors and armor combos. Then my Dark Eldar bring a dark side to them. I paint Biel-Tan with an Avatar, then my Dark Eldar are black with red high lights and have a squad of clownish looking Harlequin with them.

I voted IG because thats my main army. I picked Steel Legion because they are not as common in my area as the Cadians simply becasue they are pewter. But with the new rumor of maybe plastic Steel Legion this could be an idea for you.

Another idea, you can now ally your Necrons in a desperate ally with Blood Angles. It will give you a new color to paint up...

There is a lot of creative freedom with Imperial Guard. You can have regiments dressed only in colorful fresh pressed dress uniforms (Mordians), or a motley crew of hardened veterans with a lot of improvised gear and anything in between. You can have it as old school as you want with something like Vostroyans, or as modern as you want with Elysians. You can have the grim and uniform DKoK. or the very individual Catachans.

2500pts Da Blitza Boyz! (Orks) 70% painted.

I love tau. You can model them in inserting ways, and nothing has to be the same. It is also interesting to see the very utilitarian militaristic designs of the Tau next to their allies.
(you can also get 12 crisis teams (35 suits) at 2K with farsight enclves).

Definitely Daemons. MEQ is weak right now, Tyranids just got horrendous and Tau and Eldar are sissy compared to daemons and daemons are on their same power level. Not to mention you get to serve the Chaos Gods!
