So this is supposed to be a thread detailing things that are slightly funny, such as the swarmlord attacking at the same time as a venomthrope due to the venomthrope lash whips, which incidentally with using 2+ poison, would make them quited decent large monstrous creature hunters, againt eldar, or good against weak units such as guard, but yeah, thats what this thread is about. post away guys

Good catch on Venomthropes... we just need a reliable way to let them catch Riptides or Wraithknights.
Spore mines are awesome, and can be a decent threat to vehicles. It's just 30pts to get an S9 ignores cover attack on the armour facing you charge into.
Worst case, your opponent focuses them down quickly, and therefore isn't shooting something else worth more than 20-30pts.
You can do all sorts of gimmicky stuff with Deathleaper/Lictors and deep-striking. Perfect accuracy Mawlocs, FMCs or Trygons.
FMC's with Onslaught can move 24", run 2D6" then shoot. Great for getting into your opponents deployment zone and firing at side/rear armour with TL devourers.
There's also the GtG /Synapse trick...
1) Put a Lictor or Genestealer unit up front in area terrain as an Infiltrator.
2) If it takes fire, Go to Ground for +2 to cover save.
3) Now extend your Synapse up to the infiltrator, either by moving something, casting Dominion or deep-striking something like Shrikes or a Trygon Prime nearby. The infiltrator becomes Fearless and can immediately stand up and act that turn.

Spore mine rule limits themm to Str 10 but you can only ever get str 9 with a max brood.
Old one eye has Claws for +1 str while he is already str 10.
Someone needs to work on his math.

Spores are better than that as they can only pop in cc so it's on rear armour, damn good chance to kill/damage a tank of your choice and a 50/50 of doing so against a land raider.

Thanks to being fearless the Exocrine has a good chance to shoot twice a turn if it failes the IB check. Shoot the next target during the start of your turn and shoot again in the shooting phase. Now you just need stuff to be in range what could be achieved via a tunnel Since that thing has MV 7 it shouldn´t be to "hard" to fail with the test. IB seems to be a buff in most cases.

The mawloc, even if it ends up mishapping, could be quite deadly. S6 attacks at AP2 that roll twice. Since only a 1 is REALLY bad on mishap, and several results put it back in reserves to be able to do it AGAIN, this guy could murder infantry.
It's no longer any use against vehicles, sadly, so avoid deep striking into those. But it will do significant damage against other units!
Gargoyles are really cheap, as are gaunts.
Warriors are expensive and still killed by missiles, but I'm thinking that in the current meta, where people spam S7, warriors will be really good. And, if taken with SEVERAL MONSTERS, the enemy has to choose whether to shoot warriors, which could easily have a 3+ cover save by gaunt screening and shrouded from a venomthrope, or the monstrous creatures that are coming in, which may easily have feel no pain and a 3-5+ cover save themselves.
I don't think the tyranid codex is an "easy" codex to win with. It is going to require a mix of troops to get a mix of abilities and good placement to use them all. But I think it's an alright codex.

They give him armour bane, and are the same flaws everyone else has. Do you really think they should have given him special claws?

How so? Prowl states that you shoot at the nearest target in the Shooting phase. You don't randomly shoot just for failing the test.

Elite Tyranid Warrior

Sunday night, for giggles, a guy and I played 1750 of 5th Ed Nids vs 6th Ed.
He ran 5th Ed Swarmlord w/guard, OOE, 2 Carnifex, ymgarl stealers, Tervigon and gants.
I ran 6th Swarmlord w/guard, flyrant w/devs, 2 Exocrine, 40 gants, venomthrope, Haruspex, 2 Zoanthrope, 2 Biovore, mawlock.
I had a Swarmlord bestowed Monster Hunter on an Exocrine and proceeded to one - shot each of his Carnifex. A bunch of gants take down OOE over 3 turns, but had my Swarmlord and Haruspex totally ripped apart by his stealers. Haruspex killed more by bleeding acid blood more than anything else. :-/
Not a great yardstick to go by as the game was determined by a few bad rolls on his part (3 failed charges and OEM's saves).
Venomthrope and Mawlock never got to be used in the manner I wanted. Mawlock scattered and no one shot at my gant-line. :-(
*shrug*
I'm keen to play more.
