Hello all, I was thinking about entering the world of WFB and I have decided to try out Dwarfs. After reading some stuff on the internets, I have discovered that they may or may not be getting a new book soon. I was hoping that I could get some insight into whether or not there were certain models that I would be safe getting or if I should just wait all together.

Supposedly the book is launching in February so I would wait until after it launches and see what people decide is stuff still worth getting. Welcome to fantasy

I think it's worth the wait to see if any models get upgraded.

If your that eager to start, pick up some of the standard dwarf lords and heroes. I doubt their models will change and plus it gives you a head start and something to work on while you wait.

Id wait, you are looking at 2-4 weeks max (i think).

Ya I agree about waiting. Even if you pick up some of the standard lords/heroes you might be better off waiting to see what new models get releases.

Like Grix said its only 2-3 weeks away so I am sure you can wait that long....but I get why you wouldn't want to wait.....those plastic models call my name every time I walk into the FLGS "Buyyyy meee BUUUUUUUUYYYYYY MEEEE!!!!"

If you're thinking of starting dwarves, buy two battalions. NOW.

No, I'm not a pushy GW salesperson, I'm just offering some good advice. The Dwarf Battalion is by far the best multi-unit box GW have ever released and with these boxes getting worse and disappearing altogether, I'd snap two up now. The great thing is that the Battalion provides you with some of the basic fundamentals of a Dwarf Army, Core troops (a wide range buildable from the box, and all good) and cannons. These are very unlikely to be made redundant or bad in any new book, so you can safely secure yourself a good deal and a good start.

Even with characters added in, these units will only take you up to 2000, which, for a standard game, leaves some room for the inevitable new goodies that will come with the new release.

Besides, with two Battalions you get enough parts to make an awesome marching band.

Looking at the swedish GW store page, The Dwarf Battalion is already gone. They got the army book, and the paints, But not the battalion.

There's plenty on eBay, and you'll get them for cheaper too.

Due to the fact that almost ALL our models are resin or plastic outside of cannons and core, I'd give it a month for the new ones to be released. If they don't come out in February, then go a head and start an army now. After all, fantasy release schedules are always odd and not what you expect

If you want to start painting. I'd suggest a few heroes and a cannon wouldn't hurt. The cannon kit is ace, and not likely to change, and you will be taking at least one.

I'm considering to start dwarfs or empire after my DOC army is finished painting. I have a couple of heroes on hand to test color schemes while I await the new book.

Like said previously, picking up a battalion would be a good start. This would give you an opportunity to improve paint skills or test color schemes. Even if these plastics do get replaced, I cant see the aesthetic changing so much that these models could not be used to fill out the probably more expensive newer boxes that will come out.

Another option, is to figure out a theme for your new army and work on getting some awesome terrain put together. This is what i did for my chaos many many years ago as a broke Marine. Now i force my opponents to fight me on my own turf!

The other reason to pick up the battalion or other models now is that with the launch, GW WILL increase the price of the army. So core troops, and units that you just plain like, would be a good choice now, especially if you're sure you like the look of the army and would enjoy painting it.

I have a small dwarf force, and I'm going to buy some additions before the new book.
