So im rather a fan of the merry harlequins and it makes me sad that theyre just relegated to a single elites choice in both elder books, as I think this results in a loss of flavour in order to shoehorn them into a balanced unit, so I would propose the following and just wondering what people think/ and if anyone who has a large collection of harlequin models from the old days would think about playing it in their current eldar army:

Harlequin Masque: Elites Choice for codex Eldar or Codex Dark eldar, replacing the harlequin troupe choice

0-1 Masque: The masque consists of the following units, they take up a single elites choice on the force organisation chart and deploy at the same time upon the battlefield, but any units may be split off and kept in reserve if the player wishes, and are rolled for separately. If it consists of more than 3 choices, it takes up 2 elites choices rather than 1

Special Rules Explanations:
Dance of death: The harlequins are a strange people, and although welcomed by the eldar a certain distance is always kept. Harlequin Characters may only join other units with this special rule

Soulless Abomination: The solitaire is a deeply unsettling creature to even be near, all eldar fear them, as do the lesser races, and for the psyker the experience is magnified. All Models (friend and foe) Suffer -1 Ld when within 6" Of a solitaire. If a model has the psyker special rule or is part of a brotherhood of psykers then they suffer -2 Leadership instead. This effect does not apply to models with the dance of death special rule.

Smoke & Mirrors: The mimes infiltrate enemy installations to lay the harlequins callings cards of dread and fear, and to sabotage the equipment and installations of the enemy, before vanishing without a trace After deployment, choose one enemy unit, vehicle, or building. This unit or model suffers D6 Str6 AP5 hits with the rending and haywire special rules. Additionally, the enemy warlord suffers -1Ld for the first turn, and enemies firing at a unit of mimes always suffer -1 on their dice rolls to hit.

Webway Portal: The high avatar may deploy a webway portal at any point during his movement, place the small blast marker (or otherwise adequately sized marker) in base contact with the high avatar. From the next turn onwards, any models with the dance of death special rule that are still in reserve may be brought on through the webway portal as if it were a table edge, without needing to roll reserves. If the high avatar is equipped with a webway portal then you may choose to not roll for reserves on any units with the dance of death special rule.

Hallucination grenade Launcher: The models unit counts as having plasma grenades, In addition any unit the model is in close combat with must pass an initiative test or suffers -1 WS and Initiative for that round of combat

All that in one elite slot? That's a pretty big elite choice.
Personally, I'd say make it a detatchment. That, or we could try to make a minded out of this.
Thanks for putting this up!

I'd agree this should be a detachment, meaning you can have a small harliequin army like the inquisition. On the actual rules I like them alot, especially the jetbikers but I feel if you go all the way and make them a mini codec like the inquisition it would give you free range to add in some of the other cool harliequin things.

Examples.
Tanglefoot grenades. Str 2 Apr - assault 1, small blast, rending, pinning, tanglefoot (every wound caused is a -1 on the pinning test. Available to characters for 8pts.

Reaverblades str user ap 2, melee, 2 cc weapons, piercing strike (causes instant death when they wound on a 6). Available to characters 25pts. Replaces power fist options.

Blitzing Assault. Special rule for solitaire. For every unused Inch for charge range the solitaire gets +1 attack until the next phase to a max of 7 additional attacks.

Gotta run but I'll be back with a few more ideas to throw at you, a great start!

I really like these rules! I also like the extra ideas above too, and fully support turning it into an inquisition like detachment for Eldar armies.

The main problem i face was the "how to include?" problem, hence why I settled with the elite choice (or two elites if over a certain size) I didn't want to expand them to fill up the allies slot as I felt that it meant that if you wanted a single harlequin troupe then that's your entire ally slot gone,

A formation or a "inquisition" kinda think would be perfect though, great idea!

Also love the idea of the additional greandes and the reaverblades, and the blitzing assault rule, that could definately work! I was also considering giving the solitare rampage to represent his dance of carnage through a larger unit. That blitzing assault could be great though, makes sense as he builds up impact before he slaughters something. Perhaps every 2 inches though as he could suddenly get very good, with 12 WS8 attacks with either AP2, AP3, or rending it might get a little too good. Unless his points went up considerably.

Also, I almost added a venom with a shuricannon and holo-field as a transport but refrained during the write-up, what would everyone's thoughts be on that?

If anyone with a larger collection of harlequins plays with these rules I would love to hear your feedback!
