Hi all

I am teaching a friend of mine to play 6th ed 40K (as he has not played properly for 24 years) and will be using my eldar against his space marines.

This is the list I am thinking of taking at 1500pts (I want to have a chance at winning but without totally stomping him into the dirt):

Farseer 130
Singing spear, spirit stone of anathlan

Spirit seer 70

11 Guardians - 119
Bright lance

10 Guardians - 255
Starcannon
Wave Serpent
TL Scatter laser, shuriken cannon, holofield

8 Rangers - 96

9 Howling Banshees 160
Exarch - Triskele, Disarming Strike
Wave Serpent 145
Bright lance, shuriken cannon, holofield

6 Warp Spiders - 149
Exarch - Spinneret rifle, fast shot

5 Dark Reapers - 215
Star shot missiles, Exarch - Reaper Launcher, Star shot, Fast Shot, Night Vision

Fire Prism - 160
Shuriken cannon, holofields, spirit stones

Total 1499pts

I know banshees are a hard unit to use now, but I wanted to give them another try as I have always liked them.

I am considering running the spirit seer with them and trying for protect and/or conceal to give them a bit of staying power.

Embolden and empower could be handy for fearless and + 1 strength too.

well i dont really know where to go with this.
I could give you advise to make it better,
but you say your teaching a friend to play, and having an uber competitive list wont be good.

I would go straight out and run 30 banshees, and jain zar. That way he will win and feel good about himself.

If you want to give your friend a chance, you probably want to tone down your list a bit. Eldar have a LOT of hard counter units to MEQ, and you are using most of them. (Banshees, reapers, prisms). Also, with shuriken/monofilament you get a lot of pseudorending to shred power armor.

The farseer point cost is wrong, unless you took runes of warding... I really really really like spiritseers, and yes, with banshees is a fantastic idea. Don't be so hasty to take only codex powers; telepathy is a stupid good dicipline. Banshees can't charge the turn they pop out, but with shuriken pistols, a triskele and psychic shriek you can butcher one marine unit, then get into place for a charge next turn.

Drop one of the guardians from your foot squad, unless you just can't spend the points elsewhere.(That may just be my OCD speaking)

Your mech guardians can go without a heavy weapon, but if you want one the shuriken cannon is your best bet. No hard Ap2 makes it a bit nicer against heavy armor(but all that rending dakka will hurt) and it saves points.

Your reapers are hard counters, but I think it is okay to have them considering they are fairly fragile . If your opponent has no idea what their guns do, be sure to let them know.

Consider dropping the prism for something else, but if you keep it drop the cannon. The stones are situational, but useful if you need.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Thanks for the input guys.

I may well drop the starcannon and use the points plus dropping a few upgrades to get a warlock for the unit.

I might even take storm guardians with two fusion guns plus a spear warlock. You don't get much more friendly than that!

You laugh, but I have used that exact loadout to excellent effect....

@ninjafire, just saying 9/10 of your posts on Eldar lists or Eldar tactics have wave serpents in it.

Take 30 Harlequins without shadowseer and make him feel good about killing them.

I have actually used fusion gun guardians myself and they have done well for me. With the spear warlock they managed to take down a full group of war walkers in one shooting phase (yes we were playing eldar vs eldar, it was a bit weird tbh, not something I want to do often).

My point was that they are not generally seen as one of the codexes better units.

They were in a serpent of course.

If I had 30 harlequins I could try that idea Arbiter, unfortunately only got 16 including the two shadow seers!

One day I will have to put them into a list. I have not used them with the new codex yet.

If i run my Harlequins its 2 x10 man/women units with troupe master and shadow seer and boy is it creepy looking... But if you take farseers for both units they are a real beat stick with 40 rending attacks on the charge (you always buy the kiss) per unit and with re rolls to hit and to wound and if you get misfortune on Div then they have to re roll their successful Inv as well!

What would you suggest I change to make the army a bit more beginner friendly?

Fire Prism?
Warp Spiders?

If so what should go in instead?

I have war walkers, fire dragons, scorpions, harlequins, avatar, wraithlord, falcon, dire avengers and an autarch available.

Got no hawks, wraithguard, wraithknights, vauls wrath, jetbikes or fliers yet (but there is a large chunk of that I want to get eventually).

Some stuff like the rangers and banshees I want to keep as they don't get used in my lists often. I also don't want to nerf the list too much as I want to have a chance and I don't want to insult my friend by going too easy on him (even if he is learning).
