I cant decide if giving bone swords to tyrant guard is worth it or if they should just be taken bare bones? anyone else have opinions on this?

At 70 points a model, that is rather expensive. Your best bet is to take them bare bones. They will do fine with rending.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

A friend of mine and I were joking of just slapping Crushing claws on them because it looks so cool with the new kit, but I agree with Unyielding Hunger, bare bones Guard do their job well.

Silacier & Rozgarth: Hey you should start playing warmahords with us.
Me: OK (sets down Tyranid, drives to store and picks up Legion of Everblight)
Me: the more things change....

They're supposed to soak up wounds, so don't splurge.

You probably want to magnetize them though because once you go flyrant, you never go back and at that point you can field them as hive guard. But yeah, bare bones is what you want, most of the time you will be in a challenge anyway so they won't even be fighting anything worthwhile.

I still feild them Tyrant Guard even with a flyrant. They make very nice assault units or places to hide a Prime. As an T6 3+ infantry unit, TG are one of the toughest in the nid codex. At 50 pts a pop2 brood of these guys will make force the opponent to burn anti MC weapons on them instead of your more costly MC.

Depending on the woriding of the unit it might be worth to buy one unit if these the armour eating claws if you use them as a melee unit while you field a flyrant.

Use the first 2 top soak up wounds and the last one as a can opener. I have not cost compared them to a carnifex but it might be worth looking into.

They can replace on any model, does not have to be whole brood. For 50 points more you lose 4st and Smash, gain 2 wounds, +2I, +2A, ArmorBane on 2 of the attacks and easier cover saves.
