So I posted a list on the 40k army list sub forum and a poster made this comment:

"way to order the op stuff from the best army atm to remedy your faith in the game, 3 wave serpents and a wraithknight plus the 2++ rerollable combo. someone is powergaming."

Now, have a couple objectives when I build a list. The main one, I think, is that I want any army I build to have a reasonable chance of competing against any army, including nasty tournament lists without my list itself being unfair or broken.

I really would like to hear from you. Are wave serpents over-powered, is a taking a wraith knight power gaming? I don't think so, but I would to hear the opinions of others.

I think that your list (not you as a person, your preferred way to enjoy the game, etc., just so you know there's no reason to get upset) is an abomination that would incite groans and ridicule in my group.

Allied army, lots of minimum troop choices, unit spam, wraithknight... I probably would refuse to play against this list, because judging from that alone, your and my perception of the point of the game are so different that we would not get much fun out of it.

I'm not a tournament player though, so decide yourself if that makes my opinion valid in your eyes.

It's getting to the point where if I see Marneus Calgar and the Swarmlord in the same unit as a Riptide, I probably won't question its legality.

Some random semi-literate loser on the internet called you a powergamer and now you're worried about it?

If I call you a cheapskate, will you send me money?

I don't think it's that bad. Probably very similar to what I'd run if my group used allies (I'd switch out the wraithguard probably).

It doesn't really matter what a random person on the internet says though, what matters is what the people/group that you play with think.

The list is fine , even improvable ( a non-stock wraithknight exists in it). The problem with statements like powergamer or waac are not actually defined by dictionary, they are not even deregatory terms to some so you shouldnt take any meaning in such statements , let alone getting actually annoyed by such statements.

Dont be bothered that some people might want to win with any army thye field while bashing people who actually have some sense of what is actually good or not and build such armies.

Something I quickly learned is that you need to judge what kind of person you're playing against, and you can only do this by talking to them.

For example, with my space wolves army if I'm playing against someone who I know is going to field a strong list, I also field a strong list. Lots of long fangs, well equipped grey hunter squads, drop pods with 10 combi-plasmas, that kind of stuff.

But a lot of people approach the game more casually. They write lists because they like the look of the unit, or they take a ridiculously expensive HQ unit because they think he's a total badass, or they want a fluffy/themed army, etc. If you field lists like yours in OP against these people neither of you are going have a good time.

Against them I'd field something more fun, like a bunch of thunderwolves, or an extortionately expensive wolf lord on thunderwolf. And I wouldn't take Jaws on my Rune Priest.

There's a time and a place for competitive lists. A competitive list becomes an abusive list when your opponent finds it abusive. Talk over what kind of game you want with your opponent first. Something that people are always surprised at is when I suggest that we both consult each other whilst we write our lists, but these games often turn out the best. Like one game where my opponent decided to take abaddon and I took the swarmlord, and the two of them basically ran straight towards each other whilst the rest of the battle played as normal around them.

Even competitively I'd say you need to understand as well that your list is very strong. Stronger than perhaps some codexes are capable of beating, potentially making some of your games no longer "competitive".

It's fine, it's like a modified 5th ed list basically. Really, I'd say not to worry about the loud complainers. They're just looking for something there to loudly complain about.

Your list is fine. I would gladly play against it.
It is competitive, but not OP and it makes sense fluffwise.
This army does not make you a powergamer.

Id say if your intention was to stand up against a tourny list.....youve succeeded. But if you brought that list to a casual setting....yea youd deserve the groans and "No way, never gunna happen"

Thank you, this has been instructive. I now think that the list is a fine TAC list for a semi-competive/competitive game.
