Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Hi, I'm a student enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans. I'm very new to playing the table top but I've followed the lore since 4th edition and spent countless hours playing the dawn of war games as well. My projects so far are a chaos marines army and a salamanders army. Any advice or pointers would be welcome

Salamanders? Yes!!!!
Welcome to Dakka evil_kiwi! Hope you enjoy your time here!

What kind of pointers are you looking for?

So you played Dawn of War? Which was your favorite?

Mainly where to go for the salamanders army. I picked up the Dark Vengeance box as well as another box of tactical marines, a dreadnought, and a force commander. I've not done much research on the new space marines because I was focusing on chaos at first.

The chaos army is a little more developed. It has the dark vengeance box (I haven't really liked many of the units from it except the cultists), two boxes of chaos marines, a squad of raptors, a squad of bezerkers, a squad of terminators, a rhino, a land raider, and a helldrake. But I'll take any advice on future purchases for it as well.

Also any tips on tactics in game would be appreciated. I'm not going to play competitively but I don't want to get tabled either.

Honestly, winter assault and dark crusade were my two favorites. I was a fan of the larger armies for those games especially for the vehicles. I did like the co-op for DoWII though. About the only one I never liked was Soulstorm.

I don't really have much in the way of good tactics (really, I kind of play against myself most of the time), but 40k tactics is a good place to go for tactics advice.

If you still have the Dark Angels from Dark Vengeance, you could try to repaint them in Salamander colors. If there are any units that look very Dark Angel-ish, you could say they switched chapters.
