so this game called rust was in a penny arcade comic, looked over it, seems like it could have potential.

Are we looking at the same game? Because every screenshot and video I've seen of it makes it look like total crap.

My roommate tried it out, but stated it's really only good if you play with a group of friends.

And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say "I think I'll have myself a beer"

I looked at it, but the dayZ alpha looked like it had far more to offer. Especially loog term. A couple of people i know play it but only in groups. Despite them talking about how much they love it they never play it on their own. I personally dont think it looks good

Ive watched FrankieonPCin1080p play it a few times. It looks pretty lame IMO. Granted I havnt played it at all, but watching his vids definitely gives me the impression that its not really a fun game at all.

Mixed opinions tbh. It looks very lackluster and basic.

However I do like the way the house/base building works.

The one thing that bugs me is the "DayZ" approach, currently its got zombies to kill and a few animals but I heard the devs are looking to remove the zombies. So its (potentially) becoming a base builder & player hunting game. Not my thing as I tend to hate PvP, I much prefer Co-op. Players will get bored really fast if the only threat is from other players I feel.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

I think they would have to change the name to DayP if they did that...

I played it for a couple of days, then gave up when I found out that when you log out your character stays in the game and is killable - I lost about 5 hours of work going from nothing.

You do know why that is, right?

Too many people go "Oh, this guy's about to kill me in a PvP game, I'll just log off"

That depends on how long you stay logged in for, really. Long enough to allow people already chasing you down to kill you is fine, but long enough to allow some chance passer-by to take you down when you'd originally logged out in an empty area? That's not cool.

Depending on whether Optio was being actively chased, or whether he'd logged out in what had been, at the time, and a safe place, it could either be working as intended or be an eff-up on the game's part.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Good gaming habits include logging out of persistent worlds in a safe zone - cities, towns etc, some games will even reward this intelligent move by granting extra xp (WoW). Nobody to blame but himself IMO.

No, there's nobody to blame but himself if he purposefully logged out somewhere without checking it was safe; having a character remain logged in for an inordinate amount of time after logging out or closing the game is a flaw that should not be there.

Your comparison to WoW is also incorrect, since on a PvP world nowhere save sanctuaries suit your interpretation of a 'safe zone'. Outside of resting areas, WoW also has a countdown that you can manually cancel whilst logging out, whereas I assume Rust does not, but instead leaves your character persistent but unable to be controlled.

To me it seems that you're just trying to look for a reason to blame Optio instead of even considering that the game might have a flaw.

It looks bad, has barely any content and everything it tries to do was allready done more competently in other games.

I would not recommend it, at least in its current state.

Also, this. There is absolutely no point in the whole build and progress-thing if you have to supervise your Character 24/7. Even other games with "PvP everywhere all the time" had measures to ensure that Players had time to react to protect themselves and their stuff, while making sure you couldnt just log out mid chase to avoid death.

Darkfall's Log-out took 60 seconds and was cancelled if you got attacked. If you just killed the game with Alt+F4 you would remain ingame for about the same time before your Character is gone.

Thats a far superior system to Rust's "forever logged in!"-stupidity.

I was in the safest place I could be - in the base I had started building hidden as much as possible in the hills. Without having a full blown endgame set up I dont see how you can ever be safe logging out, and if its early game your basically at the mercy of everyone. A 5 minute period of your person being there i could understand to stop combat logging, but not persistent...
