You are over spending on core. In general high elves want to take the bare minimum core that they have to given the strength of their special and rare choices. 40 spearmen with full command and the standard of discipline will cover that.

The spearmen want the full command, the archers only need a musician. But you might opt to drop the archers all together. A couple of eagles in rare would be a good investment.

I'm not sure if this army would benefit from Life on the Archmage to be honest. Shadow would be better, it's a better lore on the whole for elves. Elves in general love Mindrazor but the weight of attacks that spearmen put out make them a particularly good candidate.

Are these models that you already own? If not, do you have your heart set on Phoenix guard? White Lions might be a more competitive choice.

Yes these are models i own, just not in these quantities but i can buy those along the way.

Okay so ill drop Life for Shadow

Then ill drop archers and replace with white lions.

Make spearman full command with discipline banner.

And maybe a few eagles.

So this is what i got now.
--------------------------------
LORDS
Archmage
lvl 4
Lore of Shadow
Book of hoeth
Talisman of preservation

CORE
40 Spearman Full Command, with discipline banner
5 silver helms Full Command

SPECIAL
20 Phoenix Guard full command
10 White Lions

RARE
Bolt thrower
Bolt thrower

Ok I should clarify my point about Phoenix guard vs white lions. 10 white lions aren't going to do much so you probably need to decide which you prefer and take 30. Taking an each-way bet and trying to include both in reduced numbers is actually making your army weaker. Taking 15 of each might work at a pinch, but they come is sets of 10, so money wise that's going to be a pain.

The silver helms are a bit out of place in this list and again are in too small numbers to really make an impact. Whilst they are quite fast, nothing else in your army is fast so they are going to find themselves separated from the rest of your army. Like I said before, the spearman are covering your core, so you could drop the helms completely and use those points for an eagle or two or to possibly buff the lions/Phoenix.

35 spearmen with full command and standard of discipline would cover your minimum core almost exactly and give you a few more points to play with.

I think your on your way to a decent list.

However. There are three things that make a competitive high elf list.
1- BoTWD
2- Frosthearts
3- Bolt throwers

Generally, you need at least two of those. And a BSB! In a competitive setting, they're mandatory!

I recommend taking 30 lions over Phoenix guard. They're much more versatile.

Yeah, as Alex87 said, take the minimum core. Simply take the 40 Spearmen and BoD.
I know there is a lot of hype about White Lions right now, but that's only in large numbers and with the Banner of the World Dragon in tow. I prefer to take my Phoenix Guard over the White Lions. Their 4+ Ward is huge. Consider sticking a Lv. 1 High Mage in there and give him the lowest-cost spell to cast. If he gets it off (even if it has no real benefit to you) it will give your PG a 3+ Ward. There's not very much that can get through that. I've taken down huge Chaos Warrior units with this one unit, easily. Don't forget they also have halberdiers and heavy armor. Make them 25-30 strong, and they'll be around for a long time. Something else to consider taking with this unit is the Crown of Command as they are not stubborn like the White Lions.

I really don't rely on shooting very much in this edition of Warhammer. It is very underpowered to me. The two bolt throwers will be good to have in order to force your opponent forward and have a little something to worry about for his big monsters or single units like chariots, but otherwise won't have much of an impact on the game. Definitely drop the Silver Helms. They won't do much for you.

Eagles are a good thing to have.

This is how I'd make this list:

Archmage (Lv.4, Book of Hoeth, Talisman of Preservation){Lore of Shadow} - In with Spearmen
Mage(Dispel Scroll){High Magic} - In with Phoenix Guard

41 Spearmen(Full Command, Banner of Disc.)
29 Phoenix Guard(Full Command)

2 Bolt Throwers
Great Eagle

That comes out to 1499. It might not be the most dynamic list, but it'll be a tough nut to crack! Have fun!

Im playing a game against Ogres and some Wood Elves today. Ill use this list against the elves, and the list that alex modified against the ogres. I normally get squashed by ogres but ill see how it goes.

But i was kind of thinking 1 great eagle wont do a lot. But ill throw one in and see how it goes

Alex 87 I don't know what to do, if i drop the PG then i'm losing lots of my survival. I normally use PG to tie up heavy units. But on the other hand, White lions will probably hit the heavier units better.

So im dropping PG for WL at full command, 35 spearman FC with banner of Discipline. And with a Great eagle. If im keeping everything else the same then that leaves me with. 1290 points.

I normally play against Ogres because thats the army that my brother plays. And in all the times i've played him his horde of Ogre Bull things just come along and squash me, i throw everything i have at them but then 3 Mourn Fangs come and take me out. i've tried countering that but i dont know how.

So if i take white lions will that help at taking out a horde of Ogre bulls?

Be careful not to let the Wood Elf player get behind you. Use your eagle to do that. If he manages to get behind your units, he can simply keep moving and shooting at you from behind.

RESULTS-
Wood Elves- i squashed him in the 4th turn, bolt throwers destroyed his archer units. PG swept the battle field and picked up the left overs.Mage and spearman did almost nothing as they sat at the back. And the archmage just took care of the wood elf mage.

Ogers-
Umm for once i put up a fight, but i did lose. His moutne fangs were SOOOO annoying, i couldnt really do much buy they did clean the battlefield. White lions went up against the bulls and killed a few. It took 3 rds of combat but they eventally died. Both mages were targeted early but after i casted pit of shades and killed some ogers.

Overall i was quite happy with the result.

So after your battles, what would you do differently?

Thanks Guys!!!!

I've only seen PG used with razor banner with good effect. Have you considered using them this way?

This is very expensive and meta dependent. If you're facing footslogging warriors or elves, it works. But up against skullcrushers, and mournfang, the unit is relying on a gamechanger like mindrazor.
