Hi Dakka,

The following list is made for fun in a semi-competitve way.
To clarify: I do not expect to do well in a tournament or even win that many games with this list. I do expect it to have an Iron Warriors theme and be fun to play.

Here goes, tactics and questions to follow.

HQ

Sorcerer - 60 pts.
Warlord. Rolls on Biomancy.

Elites

Hellbrute - 115 pts.
Reaper Autocannon and Missile Launcher

Hellbrute - 115 pts.
Reaper Autocannon and Missile Launcher

Hellbrute - 100 pts.

Troops

Marine Squad - 207 pts.
+5 Marines, Autocannon, Meltagun, Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher

Marine Squad - 207 pts.
+5 Marines, Autocannon, Meltagun, Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher

Fast Attack

Heldrake - 170 pts.
Baleflamer

Heavy Support

Land Raider - 230 pts.

Predator - 115 pts.
Lascannon Sponsons

Havocs - 115 pts.
4 Autocannons

Fortifications

Aegis Defence Line - 100 pts.
Quad Gun.

Allies

Herald of Tzeentch - 45 pts.

Pink Horrors - 90 pts.

Soul Grinder - 180 pts.
Daemon of Nurgle, Phlegm Bombardment.

The idea: Use your 8 Autocannons, 2 Havoc Launchers, 4 Lascannons, Soul Grinder Phlegm, 2 missile launchers and 2 Reaper Autocannons to outrange and mow down priority targets.
Send in the Heldrake to clear out camping units in cover and clear the way. Follow up with Marines and the naked Helbrute to deal with anything still standing.

The Sorcerer is there as the cheapest available HQ and HOPES for either iron arm or endurance. He will spend the game hidden somewhere as safe as possible. If he gets endurance, will cast it on the Havocs in case they need to move.
The Tzeentch Herald will start with the horrors on board, he will spam Divination like there is no tomorrow on the Quad Gun or the Predator.
Havocs and possibly the two marine squads will sit behind the Aegis lines. Probably the Havoc champion will be manning the gun emplacement.

I feel as if the naked Helbrute is a bit useless (now dont just tell me that yes they usually are, I am trying here ), I originally kitted him out to be shooty like the others but I was above the 1850 pts mark.
Should I drop him and maybe replace the Sorcerer with a Warpsmith? (Advantages: repairs, 2+, better close combat, melta & flamer and -1 cover for one piece of enemy terrain.)

Obliterators? I would have to drop the Havocs in order to accommodate them, and would still need to lose the third brute. This seems to be a rather good idea actually, but I really like having 9 vehicles on board.

Thoughts appreciated.

If you want to stick with the Iron Warriors fluffy theme, then drop the daemons. As far as I know, the only daemonic influence involves Warpsmiths and the creation of Daemon Engines. I'd also drop the Rhinos and naked Helbrute. Add another CSM sqaud with the same loadout, add a dirge caster and dozer blade to the Land Raider. I would recommend replacing the Sorc with the Warpsmith (give him aura of dark glory and MoN for survivability) and stick him near the Helbrutes. Also try to scrape points for a Terminator squad for the Land Raider, and load them out as you wish.

Yes, I thought about maybe fielding IG (Traitor Guard with Basilisks) as allies or use just CSM. However my interpretation of their lore is that they are largely unaffiliated with Chaos as far as mutations and other "blessings" that come along with open and full-fledged devotion is concerned. So I would never use marked squads with them (ICs are another matter) or field cult units or possessed and the like but I like to think that they would use daemonic allies where they would actually benefit from their help in a "the ends justifies the means" sort of way. In contrast, the Night Lords are completely avoiding the Gods and worship, whereas the Word Bearers are the exact opposite in that regard.

Assault units are another matter and I agree, back in M31 the Imperial Fists and the Iron Warriors were different in the sense that the Iron Warriors used to go into the melee and do the dirty work themselves after they had breached the defences in a siege. So I probably should have something that can assault and Termies inside the Land Raider would offer flexible deployment since I can hold back the LR and deep strike the termies where convenient. I will look into this. Thank you!

I have marked units but only because I think they fit in a fluffy sense; Noise Marines for their unique weaponry that makes the warpsmiths get a hard on, Plague Marines thanks to god knows how much rust and decay their armour suffers etc. And personally, I'd load out the terminators with MoK and the Icon of Wrath as it is quite fluffy (I remember a couple of characters in Storm of Iron being followers of the Blood God) and it hits like a mother-fething truck.

YES!

Too bad they can't make sweeping advances in termie armour. But they shouldn't need to, should they?
