Hi guys!
I've not yet got anything for my 'crons (Not even the codex) but after a long period of painting green, green and more green on my Tau, I decided I needed a change and that is the reason this popped up! When starting a new army, I like a list to guide me on what to buy first, something to give me a goal which drives me more to complete that goal (Two complete 1850 lists of Tau and SMs done so far with this method).

My aim with any list I make is not to make a power list, but something that is fun to play. So here is my first list and is subject to lots of change, hopefully with the help from you guys.

The basic idea is a mid/close range game. The destroyers are there to deepstrike at unit sitting at the back of the field whilst the rest of the force advance and slowly pepper the enemy with gauss fire. The Destroyer lord rolls with the Wraiths to take on any threats that get too close and this will, hopefully, allow my shooty units to be free to shoot. The rather small royal court, will join the 9 man/machine units to raise their number to 10 making them more survivable with the Cryptek staying hidden within a squad to take late turn objectives that the destroyers have cleared. Or that is the initial hope, anyways.

I have also been thinking od dropping the destroyers and placing in some Tomb Blades, 20pts seems a pretty good buy for them.

So there it is. It isn't going to be perfect at this stage (I know that) but any help/advice/burning will be most appreciated

Tomb Blades aren't all that good for this list, as they will be isolated and destroyed quite early on, unless you give them T5 (+15 points per), which means they aren't gonna be all that much more cost effective than destroyers. They have worse guns and no preferred enemy.

As for Courts, I would put a lord with Sempiternal Weave and a Res Orb at the front of the bricks, so your opponent has to shoot through a 2+ Armour Save before hitting your 4+ Save Warriors. Res Orbs and Arks then go into maximum troll mode. A similar Lord for all of your Immortals will also be good, and you can then march them across the board if needs be.

Adding those lords brings the total to 2165, so you can add 2 more Destroyers for a TAC 2250.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Would it be better to drop a unit of immortals and add a bigger amount of warriors to each squad to further help the "Holy cow, they won't die" mind games?
It was the preferred enemy that won me over with the destroyers, so good to know I had the right idea.

I wouldn't say so, as at the moment you have two very resilient fairly mobile squads, and two bricks to march forward. Keep it that way, its a good basis, going from experience

I'm going to be working on the list tonight as my two battleforces, lord and wraiths turned up today. Just got to wait for the paint now...

Don't Tomb Blades have T5 as a standard (I mean without spending extra points for it) ? According to my codex they do at least. I'm pretty sure the only thing that you can spend points on for Tomb Blades (other then different weapons) is either +1 to armor save or +1 to cover save.

Edit : they do have T4 (5) and the FAQ says to use the bracketed value and ignore the other value entirely. Personally I find the Tomb Blades better then the destroyers, especially if you give them the particle beamer (S6 small blast).

ah, my bad, never paid them that much attention.

but you pretty much need the 3+ save, to avoid the majority of anti-T5 weapons, as they have AP4 mostly...

and with the Beamers, they cost 50 points per, for a loss of PE and an arguably still-worse weapon

Well, I like the models so I'll be getting some TB anyways. I can test them out as well as some destroyers and do a comparison, maybe a detailed thread on here once I have played with them enough and have a little more experience. This will mean that I'll have to paint some more shiny things though... oh no.... >.>
