How do Space Marine Chapter organize their companies?

Sons of Medusa are non codex compliant so instead of a bunch of Companies they have 3 Clans and each clan has only 3 companies...

Those companies are described in the wiki as being a Battle Company, which is fairly compliant, a Tactical Company, which I couldn't find listed in the Wiki page for Codex Astartes, and a Support Company, which it says on the wiki is kind of like the motor pool. Then the Scouts and trainees are part of a kind of auxiliary force that all 3 Clans draw from.

So how do I organize my Companies? Like for example, my current army...

1 Chapter Master
1 Captain
1x3 Honor Guard
2x5 Tactical Squads
1 Techmarine
1 Dreadnought
1 Predator


Should I paint them up as separate units coming together from individual companies to form an army, eg: the Tactical Squads get painted as being from Tactical Company, the Predator gets Support Company markings or should these guys just be Battle Company?

SM Chapters organize their Companies however they like.

In this case, you could lump the 2 Tac Squads into 1 with the Dread and the Captain for the Tactical Company, the Tech-Marine and the Predator as your Support Company and your Honor Guard and CM as the First Company.

The Honor Guard and CM are going to be the same colors as the Tac Company. The Tac Company is going to be whatever the paint scheme is and the Support Company is going to be the Chapter Colors with the Support Company markings.

Okay I see what you're saying. Basically just paint them up as a combined force of all three companies. Cool! That seems to make the most sense.

Yeah, they're all one Chapter, so they should have near-identical paint schemes, differentiated only by whatever markings or alterations depict their Company.

Yes, but they are all the same company (a clan is equivalent to a codex chapter's company), so they should all get the same markings (those of their clan).

a tatical company makes me think of the reserve tatical company from the ultramariens, but that seems a bit odd as they'd be a bit light on assault and deveastators. but given tac marines are trained to handle both assault and devestator roles I could see it sort of working, with those tatical marines handling one of 3 rolls depending on need

Well, each Clan has 3 Companies, so you would probably have both Clan markings and Company markings... the Company markings are probably going to be minor, something on a single pauldron or kneecap or something.
