Hi guys
In your opinion, what's the most used troop choices in the Eldar Codex? I have been playing wraithguards and they are fantastic! But I like to have a change of scenery for once,I had my eyes on Dire Avengers but they are too expensive for a 10 man squad + Wave serpents.

Most common are 5 man DA in scatter serpents and 3 man bikes with cannon held in reserve.

IMO a 6 man squad of bikes with 2 cannons and if you have the points, then add a farseer with singing spear on a bike to the unit. It's fast, manovreable and has quite alot of firepower.

I actually like 20 man guardian squads. Keep them back in cover, and they will destroy a unit that gets too close.

But bikes are a better option.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

That one.
My DA are stored away, and Rangers are the only other squad they gets used as troops.

I use the same Farseer, but have him on the table from the start. The GJB stay off-board until later.
If there's going to be a fight on the rush objective, being buffed with a CC weapon in the squad helps.

I placed the five different squads in here, all with what I concider to be the best load-out for them (I haven't played with two of them, only against)

1. Guardian Jetbikes
3x Jetbikes, Shuriken Cannon.
I may not like them but they are the best Troops choice hands down with mobility, survability and firepower.

2. Guardian Defenders
20x Guardians, 2x HW's of your choice (Warlock or no, up to you)
A scary blob that needs buffs to survive, but can create an 18" zone of ultimate death.

3. Dire Avengers
The best load-out might be 5 guys with Serpent, but I decided to leave vehicles out of this.
So I'll go with 10x guys, Exarch w/ Shimmershield and PW.
I have never been truly disappointed in these. Good armor (relatively), 18" guns combined with fleet & battle focus is a good threat range and shield gives them staying power.

4. Rangers
5x Rangers
Simple, cheap objective-keepers. Not bad but not great either. They do their jobs but don't expect too much of them.

5. Storm Guardians
10x Storm Guardians, 2x Fusion Guns
They need the Serpent to be actually good. Without there's really not justifying them.
Fusion Guns/Flamers are a nice addition since they can weaken the enemy before charge but I wouldn't touch the PSwords. Still only 1A base and S3. Not worth it.

If I count serpents the list is something like:
1. Jetbikes (3)
2. Dire Avengers (5 + Serpent)
3. Guardians (10 + HW + Warlock + Serpent)
4. Storm Guardians (10 + 2x Flamers + Serpent)
5. Rangers (5)

Now you know why I wouldn't have them in my official list.

So you are saying that 5 Dire Avengers are the best Troops choice in the codex?

Ah yes... DAVU Serpents... back and, better than ever.

Although I do differ from the norm in that I pull FULL DA squads in my serpents. It helps when (and this happened to me), Tau with Riptide got first turn. I couldn't get 4+ jink so here's how the first turn, first volley rolls went:

No cover except for 2 spots where I had to bunch up
No Night Fight
Riptide Nova Charged S9 AP2 On Target
Hit Serpent Front Armor with a 6, Pen
Cover Roll, 3
Shield Roll, 1
Pen result roll, 5 (+1 for AP2), Explodes 4"
Explosion kills 2 D-Cannon crew
Also, Pie took out a D-Cannon and 2 more crew dudes.

So yea, that 1 blast took out 1/2 a T& artillery squad and the Serpent, but the full DA squad inside managed to live to turn 5...

RancidHate, I had a single Orbital Bombardment hit two Serpents, pen them, I fail BOTH my 2+'s, he rolls BOTH 6's, 4 Avengers die from each of the two 10-man squads, they BOTH fail morale and run away. First and only time in years of Wargaming that I conceded a match.

On-topic, all our troops are great. Rangers might be the weakest, but a squad of them is 60 points, that means killing 2 marines almost makes up for that. And they are so low on the power scale that no one will spend a turn shooting at them. And if they have a unit that's specifically designed to take out objective campers, you hide them or put them in reserve and they'll live a long and happy hippie life.

That said, Windrider Jetbikes are arguably the best troop currently in the game.
