So not only do we need to bubble wrap children for their safety, but also their coaches....

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/16/little-league-baseball-coach-sues-former-player-over-victory-celebration-injury/

http://newday.blogs.cnn.com/2014/01/16/little-league-coach-is-suing-his-player-for-more-than-500000/

A former California Little League baseball coach has filed a civil summons against a 14-year-old player and his parents for allegedly injuring him during a post-game celebration last year.

Former Lakeside Little League coach Alan Beck told Fox40.com the incident occurred last spring, when the teen threw his helmet up in victory after scoring a winning run, allegedly striking and tearing Beck's Achilles tendon.

“I could not register right at that second, so I turned around and looked and there was a helmet laying on the ground and this young man that hit me was looking at me, stunned,” Beck said.

The lawsuit seeks $500,000 for pain and suffering and more than $100,000 for lost wages and medical bills. Beck told Fox40.com he only wanted his attorney to pursue $20,000, which would cover his out-of-pocket medical expenses.

“I feel like a victim because, basically, I tried to work this out with the parents. The parents never acknowledged my injury,” Beck told the station Wednesday.

The teen's parents, Joe and Raegan Paris, said they were shocked to receive the summons seven months after the incident. They said no one, including Beck, saw their son throw his helmet.

“I almost thought it was a joke at first and shortly there after, I realized that it’s not a joke and we need to take care of it,” the boy’s father said, noting that he has already spent thousands to fight the claim.

Gene Goldsman, an attorney for Beck, told KCRA.com he didn't think the boy intentionally meant to harm the coach, but "this wasn't a part of the game," he said.

"A guy who volunteers his time to coach should not be subjected to someone who throws a helmet in the manner that he did," he said. "What the kid did, it crossed the line."

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you can't tear a tendon just standing there, minding your own business when a rounded plastic object bumps into it..... If your tendon is THAT easy to tear, you got some other issues. The fact that this guy is suing them for a kid, literally being a kid sickens me. May he never find his way to a youth athletic field ever again.

Had the edge of the helmet hit the right spot, I could buy it. A total fluke thing, which makes it all the more ludicrous that he's suing. It's plainly obvious that it was a complete and utter accident.

I dunno, with the level of access to pornography that 14-year-olds have these days, this kid's throwing arm could have been packing some serious power behind it.

Even if the edge hit him, at worst, I think it may break skin and cause a tad bit of bleeding/scrape. And then from there on down it would just be bruising, a pain sensation for a few seconds etc. The only way I'd buy a helmet edge tearing a ligament, especially the achilles, is if Nolan Ryan chucked it at him.

But then the porn industry is to blame as they did not put sufficient warning labels on their websites to the effect that continued usage would cause severe muscle bulging in areas not relegated to bathing suits.

In that case, you're all to blame then.

And really, isn't it the victims we should be blaming?

With baseball there is a legitimate need for helmets. However, Boxing, as a sport sucks nowadays. The best sport in the world, is by far, and objectively provable, Rugby Union

You constantly seem to do your best to say most intentionally ignorant things every time.

I applaud you sir such dedication to trolling deserves applause

I bet it was a Nike helmet. Time for a class action lawsuit?

This is farcical. Surely this should be thrown out and the coach should have to pay for the family's legal costs.

Better use a baseball bat. Sueing a kid for what was just an accident is really, really sad. What a pathetic guy.
Also, how can a helmet tear a tendon? Do American baseball helmets have razor edges?

There is honestly a huge difference between the negligence of one or more motor vehicle operators, and a kid tossing his helmet UP in the air in celebration
