With the release of the SM Codex I think that the chapter tactics was a really cool idea. It gives the game a more dynamic flow and some additional identity to your army.

For CSM chapters, what are your ideas? I'm excited to hear them.

I'm especially interested in Thousand Sons chapter tactics ideas!

Pretty sure this has already been discussed a few times.

Most people I know seem of the mind to repurpose the Legiones Astartes tactics for each of the Traitor Legions in a way that fits Chapter Tactics. You know, from the Horus Heresy supplements off Forgeworld.

Chapter Tactics isn't the first fix. Marks (and what they do) would be the place to start. Example: If my Rubric Marines have "Legion Tactics" along with some Mark of Tzeentch Havocs, are both units Thousand Sons?

The entire book needs to be rebuilt, Tactics or not. Just watch any thread about this subject and you will get sick.

I quite liked the structure of the 3.5 ed chaos dex as far as that goes. (who doesnt?)

one page giving a brief outline of changes to each legion to play a 'pure' list of that legion. If I remember right it was:

Black Legion - can take anything. chosen as troops with abaddon

Iron Warriors - May swap one FA slot for an extrea HS slot, may take basilisks, vindicators etc, may take servo arms.

Word bearers - May use any type of daemon, can swap each of elites, FA & HS for extra troops. May take accursed crozius

Night Lords - some variant of the night fighting special rule, can swap a HS slot for extra FA slot.

Alpha Legion - can take cultists, certain units can inflitrate, no daemons

& then the four god-dedicated legions each had a separate codex section allowing you to play that legion in a much more in depth way. it was so cool. I'd like to see something like that make a return.

For thousand sons, you didnt buy a unit of thousand sons, you paid for the mark of tzeentch. If you gave it to certain units (aspiring champiosn, chosen, terminators, squad leaders etc) they would become sorcerers, and if you gave it to other models they'd become rubrics and gain a bunch of different rules. It was cool beans, but the thousand sons were about 10pts more expensive than they are now.

For daemon princes there was no separate codex entry, instead if you bought your lord a certain amount of points of daemonic mutations as wargear he just became a daemon prince.

(I dont know if you can tell, Im a little nostalgic for that book)

Yeah, Chaos 3.5 was awesome. Then Jervis "The game should be simple enough for my 8-year old" Johnson and Alessio "The entire game should fit on 12 pages" Cavatore happened. And they put poor Gav's name on the new book so he took the heat.
